Subject: I hear you PAM!

Last night I went to my local Walmart. I can't get out much due to illness, but I was finally able to take the jaunt. I live in the FLORIDA PANHANDLE, about 40 miles north of Fort Walton Beach.

On my way down the 5 mile stretch to the store, I saw LINES of people trying to get gas, which of course has gone up to $3+ a gallon in the wake of this disaster (RIDICULOUS).

At Walmart itself it was crazy. There were more people there then I have ever seen in my life, and for once everything you could imagine was stocked.

The surprised look on my face brought over a person asking me what I was surprised. They said "dont you live around here"? And I said "yes". She said "there have been people coming in from Louisiana in droves" She said "last night they were actually camping out in the parking lot of Walmart, and were sitting on lawn chairs".

I couldn't believe my eyes or my ears! I was like "they came all the way here?" Then I realized we are only about 6 to 8 hours from the disasters hardest hit areas, so why not.

I too took out cash while at Walmart. I didn't have much due to my own husband being out of work due to a recent operation, but nonetheless I knew someone needed it more. I then went looking for the down trodden in the parking lot to hand out some cash. I could not find anyone! BUT, I could sense they were there, somewhere.

Noticing I only had less then a quarter of a tank of gas myself, with probably no way to get my tank filled now, I came back home frustrated and told my husband so and about the people. He told me they have to lay low and NOT be seen, or they will be arrested for loitering and possibly have their children taken from them for being homeless and not able to provide. I WAS STUNNED BY THAT!

So, now, as a Pageant Director, I decided to take that littel bit of cash I have and put it to the greater efforts. I am challenging all Pageant Queens, online and live pageant Queens, to help in the relief efforts. The winner will receive a 37" trophy. I am also offering another 37" trophy to one of my own delegates who does the most advertising of the contest. Ribbons will be given to all participants.

I feel that my few dollars may have helped a couple of people here and there, but if I can motivate MANY in the Pageant Community to go out and help, then the few dollars will go a much longer way.

I am also challenging all Pageant Directors to come up with similar contests. I hope it works! Pageant Queens are not just pretty faces, but for the most part stand for platforms and Community Service. NOW this is their chance

This is nice...but disturbing. I would hope that people would help not to get a trophy, but because they want to. I for one won't be parading about in my banner doing service. I will do it simply as me. Nix the trophy. Give a certificate or something...I appreciate that you are encouraging pageant people, but come on...do we have to have a trophy? This is disturbing to me. How many loaves of bread can you buy for the price of that trophy? Or donate that much money in the name of the winner to RedCross. Something. Anything besides a stupid trophy. I would never enter your "contest."

Yes, you would think so, but some will do MORE in knowing they may recieve the trohpy for their efforts. That is the goal here.

I for one won't be parading about in my
>banner doing service. I will do it simply as me. Nix
>the trophy. Give a certificate or something...I
>appreciate that you are encouraging pageant people,
>but come on...do we have to have a trophy?

Being a Pageant Director and in doing research, statistically, the most revered prizes are crowns, cash, and LARGE trophies. Do you know how many Queens have asked me for trophies in the past, and I usually don't give them? As a director, you also can get items such as trophies from vendors and can get things wholesale. Therefore, I have decided on this large trophy for a prize. The main goal here is not to have people do things just because of the trophy, but for all to hear and see their stories, and as a bonus they may win it.

This is
>disturbing to me. How many loaves of bread can you
>buy for the price of that trophy? Or donate that much
>money in the name of the winner to RedCross.

I have donated personally to the victims myself, hand to hand and in person. There are refugees all over my state. I am also selling my own pageant crowns to donate 100% of those profits to the American Red Cross. How many loaves of bread? Maybe 20 to 25, depending on which type of bread and which store. BUT, how many other loaves of bread will be brought in lieu of those that want this trophy bad enough for FREE? Probably double or triple that amount, or even more! This is why I say I have little money myself, but I am doing this to make what little I do have go further. Wearing or not wearing regalia isn't a requisite. It is up to the participant. However, wearing regalia gives more credit to the pageant the participant is involved in, and many do do their community service work in regalia purposely. As a pageant director, I could have opted not to have this be, as I may not want to boost the other pageants but only my own, so I find it to be selfless in asking "any pageant participants" to enter in "any" or my own pageant regalia they have won. How many times have you seen pageant Queens posed with the military, or posed with the Mayor, or in soup lines wearing regalia? Why wear it then either? Not only does it boost the pageant, but it also is verification for future resumes.

Anything besides a stupid trophy. I would
>never enter your "contest."

What makes a certificate better than a 37" trophy? I dont understand the reasoning. Hey, I can add a beautiful golden sealed Certificate of Achievement to the contest. No problem. However, I can tell you, for a certificate, most would not go further then they may, and that is my goal. To give something that will encourage more work then not, and I can't know who those individuals are who deserve recognition for their efforts at all and in any way if they dont enter. I would think others would want to know who they were and what they did as well. There are many facets to this contest. Not just trophy giving.

By the way, there are MANY pageant contests out there doing things as well. Photo entries where parts or all entry fees get donated, etc. This is just another way to go. So don't put your energy into being disturbed by the words "contest" and "trophy" and debating what others are doing to help in any way they can in the pageant industry. Use your energy to do what you feel is best. Don't down others who feel what they are doing is also good work.

Thank you,

[> [> [> Oh one more thing - and to Debbie Harris -- Director of SSPP's PKRC, 1:23:02pm 09/ 5/05 [1]

To the disturbed:

Those other pageant contests and pageants out there doing similar contests I mentioned? Some are having it where you enter as normal with fee, and have your fee be donated; however, there are still prize packages going to the participants. Same thing, different idea. So in that case, they are entering and having a fee donated to a helping organization. Still prizes are given. I do this with my larger pageant. $10 of each entry fee ALWAYS goes to the "Make a Wish Foundation".

However, in this contest for Katrina that I am hosting, I am putting a different spin on it. It is separate from all of my pageant contests. You don't enter my pageant for a fee. You enter this particular contest for FREE, and the entry consists of your work efforts (by photo or by written) in the Post Katrina Relief. I dont see a THING wrong with it at all.

To Miss Harris:

Thank you for your heartfelt and complimentary email. However, this is one reason why I don't post at your "typical" voy boards anymore either. As you can see, it received one "disturbed" response, and no others. I use Voy only for advertising purposes. The post that was brought here was strictly posted in the Katrina Relief forum that Voy itself set up, so I knew it would be respected in that fashion. I do thank you for trying though. I was flattered.

I still think if you insist on giving a trophy waiting and letting the actual winner decide if she wants the trophy to be given to her or letting her decide if she would rather have the money used to buy the trophy donated for something more useful than sitting on a shelf. Heck - if you offered this option, I might enter for the principle of the matter - so I could choose NOT to have the trophy. Do you know how many 20-25 loaves of bread can feed? Don't be so condescending - it doesn't show well for you or your pageant.

That would be "Superior Stars Pageant Productions", not starts, and I tell you what, that is an option. If you enter and win, I will donate the money to the organization of your choice rather than the trophy win.

I do know how many 20 will feed. I also know that 100 loaves will feed more. If I can turn my 20 into a 100 in this manner, then that is MY principle of the matter and my choice. The more Queens that help, the more loaves will be given. I dont think you are understanding that concept.

Now, while you were taking the time to write this post, DO YOU know how many you could have been helping physically in that same time frame? Don't bother answering. It is a rhetorical question, and meant to be as condescending as your own.

I will now leave this board and some of its posters to what I can see is its usual Voy demeanor and flair. I have much better things to do with my time.

[> [> Scams? HAHAH -- Director SSPP, 4:39:24pm 09/ 5/05 [1]

Excuse me? I don't know who you think you are, but you have never been involved in MY pageants. ANYONE who has ever entered my pageants has NEVER been scammed, but I have bent over backwards to make my delegates happy. Last week I spent 10 hours sewing on rhinestones for a deleagate personally. All of my Queens can be seen and with regalia in my logo banners, and on my websites. I send extras to delegates, and always make sure they enjoy their prize boxes. I recently have acquired a new vendor just to make the turn around of prizes faster.

Don't EVER say that I dont do for my delegates, or have "scam" competitions, because to do so would make you a liar. The scam here is you. You ask others to send you money in your signature, and then don't even sign your name. It is people like you that give us GOOD directors a bad name. I'm not even asking for money, and yet you are? Get over yourself please, and by all means, get a life.

calm down...take a breath and realize that responding this way is not the way you want to be remembered.

I don't know about your pageants, but I can say I probably don't want to from this behaviour.

Perhaps you could share the rules and regulations for your Katrina contest...instead of biting anyones head off that has a differing opinion. Then people can determine whether or not they want to participate. Realize also, many people are already doing everything they can.

Calm down, stop throwing insults and start behaving like the director you pride yourself on being.

My reputation was not made by me, it was falsified by those like yourself. I attack when attacked, and rightfully so. The very first post here was an attack, yet I didnt respond in an attack fashion. As usual those like yourself swoop in with twisted ideas of the truth.

If you read the boards you are on, Miss No Name, you will see also the attacks that make no sense, and can't even be substantiated. Not to mention that I had identity theft on my own computer 3 days ago. It has since been stated I have been where I have not, and haven't been where I actually was on the net.

Please - with cyberspace, anything is basically possible. Do you think it is possible that you can let my happy delegates and my pageants go on without the attacks? We have a tragedy going on here. Its not about "me me me". Its about the victims. Please put our obsessive efforts and energies in that direction, however you choose to, but just do it.

Leaving you all to your party of ridicule now. I have some important business to attend to, and replying to nonsense surely isn't it.

I hate the thought that people are taking advantage of the situation - and this lady sounds like she is.

Donate to Redcross or your local salvation army. You can also bring things directly to your local shelters. This way you KNOW things are going where they need to - your time and money is not wasted - also, consider volunteering at your local animal shelter. Many of the refugees brought their pets, but they aren't allowed where the people are staying - so many of them have ended up in animal shelters. These animals can be walked, played with, washed and petted. They NEED it. Another idea is to send your donations directly to Debbie Harris...I know her and I trust that she will get your donations to Mrs. Galaxy. There isn't a trophy involved, but when you can do service for the right reasons, you don't need one!

It was actually Debbie Harris that brought the original post here, and not I. I am glad you respect her so much for doing so *NOT*

With that said, if you think my particular contest is taking advantage of others, then dont enter it and dont even respond to it further, but take this nameless persons advice and do as she says. Although my contest is free, so no advantages can be taken from anyone by me, I still agree with this poster in that you should send your money to all of the organizations listed just about anywhere you look if you think mine inappropriate.

Also, if you are looking for direct numbers and addresses for Pet organizations, you will see them in the Pet Discussion area of my forum at http://sspp.conforums.com/ Being a pet owner, I too feel for our little companions. I belong to a lovely group on Yahoo for pet discussions and they sent me this list yesterday. Lots of good info for those interested.

[> Find opportunities to help - CLICK IN -- Patty, 5:17:32pm 09/ 5/05 [1]

If you actually want to help, donate money to reputable sources because you care, not for a trophy by someone who says she doesn't have enough money to donate money herself.

I have found volunteer opportunities through my local mayor's office, United Way, Volunteer Match, and other local groups.

Many will help you start out a drive in your area.

[> [> My Dearest Patty -- Rose, 5:32:40pm 09/ 5/05 [1]

There is no money involved in my contest. You sound as if I am asking for it, so obviously you haven't even bothered to find out the details and have only jumped on the run-away train that is occuring here.

I merely want to see stories from those that have helped that are in pageants. It was a purely innocent gesture on my part, and not one intended to be so ridiculed in my efforts.

For your information, I HAVE donated and even in person to folks wandering around my own home town aimlessly. To state what you have as if I haven't helped out personally or even locally and financially is hideous of you. Who wouldn't in this sitution?

It really amazes me how people will always try to twist the good into bad when they haven't even researched what they are ridiculing. "Im a scam", "I am broke", "I dont help", and THIS from pageant girls??? Makes my heart saddened to even know such women exist in the industry.

I do agree with you, to a certain extent. Do donate "monies" to reputable organizations that will assure you that your funds are being put to good use in regards to this disaster.

GEESH!

Good Bye,

Therefore, I have asked that this entire post and all its replies be removed.

I do not wish to bring others misery, but happiness. If this subject remaining in this forum is bringing others this type of misery, and is only going to cause my intentions and that of Miss Harris' misery, then it really need not remain.

[> [> You should want all of your correspondance erased... -- ashamed perhaps?, 9:09:12am 09/ 6/05 [1]

Rose,

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. If you'll notice...there would probably have only been one or two remarks made, but YOU kept FEEDING the fire with your responses. You are to be blamed for this - you can blame the board or the poster if you want - that is just a cop out. You responded rudely to someones opinion...they responded to yours - so on and so forth. I personally, would also want these messages removed if I had been stupid enough to sign my name and be so blatantly rude and snooty. Hopefully the moderator won't erase this group of postings so people can know what you are like. You must learn to rise above criticism...that is what makes a "good" director and queen of any sort. I hope you can find a way to rise above this and make peace with yourself. Obviously it disturbs you that people are questioning your motives...the way you have fired back at everyone has confirmed these suspicions. You may not be doing this for the money, but you are certainly doing it for attention...not the kind you wanted?

Oh, and by the way - the reason I don't mention my name is because I don't care to parade around as a do-gooder and have people pat me on the back...I personally have refugees living in my home...we are scrounging all of our money right now (with gas prices the way they are - my husband commutes to work). My city is FULL of refugees and is taking a huge financial hit. We are only 30 minutes from Louisiana, so many people are here. EVERYONE is helping where they can - ALL THE TIME! A trophy is offensive - let's stop talking in terms of how many loaves of bread - instead, how much gas or blankets. There are children here without parents. Our public school system is full...my business is dying because people can't afford it. I am cooking and cleaning for several wounded families right now and volunteer at the local refugee shelters. So, yes - I find your bragging offensive and your encouragement of bragging as well. If you have the time and energy to do that - then you have the time to do other things that are more helpful. So many of us are already doing all we can. My husband is going to Mississippi on Friday to help people start restoring their homes...pulling up wet carpet, replacing windows - hard labor. I would go too, but I have people here who can't cook or clean for themselves and they need help too. I suppose I could give out my name - but I think that would be shameful. I think that would be pompous. I think that would be like YOU.

Besides - as long as I don't include my name - you can't "libel" me. hahahahhaha

[> Rose has earned her reputation as a Sour Grape (Click In) -- Know what I'm talking about, 7:20:40pm 09/ 5/05 [1]

Rose does not leave her house and because, of this, enters online pageants. She has publically slandered the system and director of every pageant she has entered and has been kicked off of most boards for jumping on people and saying very hateful things. Please take everything she says with a grain of salt.

Rose attampts to trash systems that have been around for a long time because the directors simply cannot keep up with her 20+ emails each day. She finds something wrong with absolutely everything about the system and the director. She really lives in her own world and has little experience of the world outside of her home and her computer.

I would highly recommend not entering any of her pageants and not handing onto any of her words (there are a LOT of them!).

If you have any questions over pageants that Rose and entered and quit (has she ever actually stayed entered in a pageant through the pageant date?), ask other contestants and queens for their opinions first. She slanders GREAT, committed directors and systems that are here to stay and do great things for their contestants and queens.

Go away, Rose. Your reputation precedes you - and it is not a good one.

[> [> Re: Rose has earned her reputation as a Sour Grape (Click In) -- Rose, 8:44:40pm 09/ 5/05 [1]

"Go away, Rose. Your reputation precedes you - and it is not a good one."

You are absolutely right. My reputation does precede me. It is a good one, but mostly outside of pageantry so it seems, and only to some queens and some directors within it. Directors and Queens you have mercilessly and obsessively written to (and cliqued with) in this same fashion are the only ones that have an issue.

By the way, when it is in written form it is "libel" and not "slander", which is in person. If you don't know the difference, then maybe you should be a little less noisy with your false expressions. In either case, when a truth is stated, it isn't libel or slander, so in my particular case, whatever you may "believe", I have committed neither.

Nonetheless, and in moving on, you have gotten your wish. I am leaving the industry. When pageant industry people, like you, can openly still bash when the country is in such turmoil instead of putting your energies towards helping the mamed, lonely, and heartsick, then it is time to be more embarrassed to be in this industry then outside of it.

All of SSPP will end in 2006. The announcement was made on my board today before you even posted your wants here. I'm sorry it can't be sooner for you, but I do have some faithful and respected contestants that are vying for end of year titles and prizes. Once those titles and prizes go forth, the websites only will remain for the year of their reigns for their own verification and resume` purposes. Then SSPP will be no more.

So, you can now pass out the party hats and noise makers. I guess you have reason to celebrate. Dont be too loud though. Wouldn't want the sick, mamed, hungry, and childless parents aimlessly walking the streets tonight to hear the joy coming from some of the darker corners of the world.

Rose
