A Master Plan was adopted in 2008 if memory serves. Supposedly the first in 30 years. Since then people have come and gone, names and faces have changed. The Plan was printed and is on the internet. But like words everywhere they mean nothing without actions. Throwing ideas around just clutters space with ideas. What we need is people who will join the few enterprising ones who have actually made some pretty impressive accomplishments. It's little steps that eventually bring you to your goal. There was a discussion here on "Take Back Your Block". Imagine what would happen if one person on every block in Newburgh did that. Just kept one block at a time. Not for nothing but Regina's done it for years. People mock her but she's managed her one block. All it needed was for the next block to follow. But it's easier to make fun and do nothing. Instead of waiting for the guy next door to sweep the sidewalk or clean up why not just do it? I pick up papers, cans, bottles along the block. It gets me out of the house and gives me exercise. I don't have to pay for a gym membership that way. When I'm done the whole block looks nicer. I don't care if my neighbors think I'm crazy. It makes me feel better. That's what's important to me and what should be important to all of us. People expect others to do the work and while they're expecting, nothing gets done.

I saw a bumper sticker that said "Commit Random Acts of Kindness". I laughed. Then I went out and did it. It's a lot of fun. People get all freaky when they see that because it's uncommon. I like uncommon. Especially when it makes my neighborhood better.

Youth has the advantages of time and stamina. Age has the advantage of experience. If we could put the two together imagine where we could go and what wonderful things we could accomplish. In the end each of us could take the credit, not our politicians.

Improvement really is cool. All it takes is to get started.
