Their names are Simpson. The youngest is at Penn State now. He wants to transfer to GA Tech though. The oldest one has moved to Colorado and the middle one lives in NY. So although they grew up there, only their Mom and her family live there now.

The odd thing is I had a college friend whose father pastored an Assemblies of God church there. We traveled to her home one weekend, from Lakeland FL. What a drive! I also visited her church that Sunday. I recall the town vividly. Then of all places in the world, my brother moves to Maryland and meets and then marries a girl from there. Talk about small world. :)

I don't know any Simpson's in Shamokin. When I looked it up in the phone book, only two live here, one on Tioga Street and the other on Pearl Street. Pearl Street is near my street. What is your sister in laws maiden name ? I might know that name.

My dad's family had a restaurant called OLGA's Restaurant,on South Vine Street, section of Shamokin called the 5th ward. Across from the old National Ticket Co. Perhaps your sister in laws family ate there and remembers it. It closed in May of 1979, when my dad walked out on the family business.

Perhaps your sister in law remembers seeing the articles in the News Item of my book and meetings with Pope John Paul II.
They were all front page stories. There was also an article printed on the front page in April 2005.

It is indeed a small word. I was stunned when you mentioned that you have family living here. It is a retirement town. People leave here to find work elsewhere, then return when they retire because the cost of living here is cheap.

My sister in law is a registered nurse and works in a nearby hospital. Sorry, other than that I couldn't tell you much about her. I don't even know her maiden name. She and my brother have been divorced for what seems forever. I have only met her 2 times! She comes from a large Catholic family, although she herself is not a practicing Catholic, as far as I know. Unless that area has many catholic churches, I am sure then you have most likely attended mass with her Mom or sisters or brothers.

The town indeed offers little to young ambitious folks from what I've always heard. That's one big reason why my nephews no longer live there. I doubt they will retire there either.

Up to 1995 there were seven Catholic Churches. Today there are only three. I hope you enjoyed your stay in my town when you were here visiting with your friend from college.

Although, not a pretty town with its coal banks. It used to be a very friendly town. Now, the coal banks are covered with lovely green trees, thank goodness.

It is just amazing what a small world we live in.
