Subject: Pope makes it easier to attend a Latin Mass

What do you think? Would you rather attend a Latin Mass or a post VII Mass in your native language?

One complaint about he Latin Mass is that it includes prayers for the conversion of the Jews. What do you think? Are the complaints legitimate?

I would rather attend a post VII-style Mass. I like the priest's facing the congregation, that we participate a lot more than in the Latin Mass. Being able to understand every word is a big plus. We could all learn enough Latin to understand the usual phrases and responses. But I'd still rather hear it in English.

I really can't think of a single reason that I would choose a Latin Mass over the Mass as it is now at my church. Hoping that my parish doesn't change.

The Agnus Dei in Latin is really nice, though. So maybe I would get used to the Latin Mass and be able to see what so many people have been talking about for the last few years.

This should make Mel Gibson very happy. Maybe now he'll go back to a real Catholic Church instead of the one he started on his own. :-)

I never attended a Latin Mass. Infact, they do not even offer the Latin Mass where I live. I know some people that are 70 or 80 years old and say that they miss the Latin Mass. When I ask them if they understood what was being said. They answered no, but it was in English on one side of the missle page, so you could follow it that way. Infact, my dad was never an altarboy because you had to know Latin. Although I was brought up in both Eastern Rite and the Western Rite of the Catholic Church. Until I was in college. I went on a regular basis to the Eastern Rite church of my mother. The Mass (Divine Liturgy as it is called) was in Ukrainian. I do not speak or write in Ukrainian. I never knew what was being said even though on the right hand side it was written in English in the missle. I think that it is okay if the church has one Mass in Latin for all those who want it on a Sunday. I hope that the church doesn't revert back to pre Vatican II, and insist that all Masses be in Latin. I like how it is now in one's native language.

On Saturday afternoon I received a catalog in the mail. As I was just now looking at it. There is a section called MOTU PROPRIO...they now have for sale the missal for lay people to buy to know the Latin Tridentine Mass. Also have a 1962 Roman Missal for sale for the clergy and the lay person to learn the rubrics of the Latin Mass. I was surprised that they didn't have any mantillas for sale!
