The Motu Proprio ( saying of Mass in Latin ) went into effect yesterday, September 14, 2007. I watched the Solemn High Mass in Latin on EWTN. Although, it was beautiful, I must say that I prefer the Mass the way it is celebrated today after the Vatican II, reforms. I just want to add that I'm glad that back in 1962,reforms were made to change the rubrics of the Mass.

Howard County Sheriff Jerry Marr got a disturbing call one Saturday afternoon. His 6-year-old grandson Mikey had been hit by a car while fishing with his dad. The father and son were near a bridge by the Kokomo Reservoir in Indiana when a woman lost control of her car, slid off the bridge and hit Mikey at a rate of about 50 mph.

When Sheriff Marr arrived at the hospital he rushed to find Mikey conscious and in fairly good spirits. "Mikey, what happened?" Sheriff Marr asked. Mikey replied, "Well, Papaw, I was fishin' with Dad, and some lady runned me over, I flew into a mud puddle, and broke my fishin' pole and I didn't get to catch no fish!"

As it turned out, the impact propelled Mikey over a few trees and an embankment and in the middle of a mud puddle. His only injuries were to his right femur bone which had broken in two places. Mikey had surgery to place pins in his leg. Otherwise the boy was fine. Since all the boy could talk about was that his fishing pole was broken, the Sheriff bought him a new one while he was in surgery so he could have it when he came out.

The next day the Sheriff sat with Mikey to keep him company in the hospital. Mikey was enjoying his new fishing pole and talked about when he could go fishing again as he cast into the trash can.

When they were alone, Mikey, just as a matter-of-fact, said, "Papaw, did you know Jesus is real?" "Well," the Sheriff replied, a little startled. "Yes, Jesus is real to all who believe in him and love him in their hearts."

"No," said Mikey. "I mean Jesus is REALLY real." "What do you mean?" asked the Sheriff. "I know he's real 'cause I saw him." Said Mikey, still casting into the trash can. "You did?" said the Sheriff.

"Yep," said Mikey. "When that lady runned me over and broke my fishing pole, Jesus caught me in his arms and laid me down in the mud puddle."

I can't access The Waltons forum or Catie's...suddenly! I was on both this morning but in the last hour...nothing but blank screens, only their colours. Is this happening to others or am I being tampered with by some idiot who thinks it's a big joke? Can that happen?

Also it wasn't until 1984 when Pope John Paul II, allowed those who committed suicide to have a funeral Mass, and be buried in the consecrated cemetery. Was the Catholic Church too harsh and wrong by not allowing these people and their families to have a funeral Mass and have them buried on consecrated ground? Do you think John Paul II was wrong in allowing this?

Have any of you kept up with the Michael Vick story? It's hard to miss since the news channels are bombarding the air-waves with it all. He's lost his millions, his football contract, and must serve some prison time. Michael says he has now "found Jesus". My question is, do you believe his new-found faith is for real or for publicity only? Is his religious status any of our business, as the public?

Many people think that celibacy is of the reasons some priests molested kids. They beleive if the priests were allowed to marry, they wouldn't be attracted to kids.

Apparently she had some serious doubts, had a lack of "feeling" of God and questioned him. The more she did, the further she felt from God. She wanted the letters destroyed upon her death.

Does it upset you, as a Catholic, to know this about her? For me, FWIW (a Joanism), :) - without getting the full story, it makes me admire her even more. I don't know a lot about her, aside from her selfless deeds, but the fact she admitted her doubts, knew her limitations, and longed to be a true servant, makes me know she longed to do God's work and be of his service regardless of what the world expected. I admire that greatly.

from there I watched the video that her class made. How sweet of them to do that. Those kids were so much fun to watch and it brought back memories of my own music class. I am curious now. Is Mary their music teacher or their French teacher?

There's an interesting letter to the editor in today's paper. The man is a cashier at a grocery store, and he says that he's sick of seeing people using their food cards to buy things like Coke, candy, chips, ice-cream, "and other junk". He says that food cards that are paid for through our taxes should be used for needed groceries only, not for junk food.

What do you think?

I'm asking this on this forum, because as Xians we're supposed to help the poor-feed them, clothe them, etc.
But how much are we required to provide? Are we required to provide whatever kind of food they want? Should we require the recipients to buy only good food?

I have a pet peeve about this system. It's smoking. IMO, no parent who smokes should be allowed to get assistance from the state. If they can afford cigarettes, they can afford a gallon of milk. If they can afford to pay 5.50 a pack for cigarettes a day, they don't need free lunches at school.

What do you think? When is it OK to draw the line on helping the poor? Is it OK to require certain behaviors of the recipient? (making good food choices, watching how they spend money other than on food, etc)

I get really annoyed when I see the people line up for a free $5 backpack for school as they put out a cigarette on the sidewalk. Grrrr! If they hadn't bought that pack of cigarettes, they could have bought the backpack! Why do we allow this?!

I'm copying just the first part of the story. What's your opinion on this? Should a church shelter illegal immigrants? Is it their Christian duty?

And what of parent/child seperation because of deportation? Whould a parent be allowed to stay when the child is a citizen?

IMO, the church should be charged. The parent has the right to take her child w/ her to Mexico, so the seperation complaint has no merit.

"LOS ANGELES (Associated Press) -- An immigration activist who took refuge in a Chicago church for a year to avoid being separated from her son has been deported to Mexico, the church's pastor said.

Elvira Arellano was arrested Sunday afternoon outside Our Lady Queen of Angels church in Los Angeles. She was deported several hours later, said the Rev. Walter Coleman, pastor of Adalberto United Methodist Church in Chicago, where Arellano had taken refuge.

"She has been deported. She is free and in Tijuana," said Coleman, who said he spoke to her on the phone. "She is in good spirits. She is ready to continue the struggle against the separation of families from the other side of the border."

Messages left with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials were not immediately returned.

Arellano, 32, became a symbol of the struggles of illegal immigrant parents when she took refuge in the church to avoid being separated from her 8-year-old son Saul, who was born in the U.S. and is thus a citizen."
