In the ritual of the last rites the person is given Holy Communion. I was just wondering if it still can be given after the person dies. Perhaps the priest will put some wine ( blood of Christ in the persons mouth ). Once the person is dead he cannot take the host ( body of Christ). Catie, the Catholic Church has a lot of rules. One rule is that when giving the host to a dying person it must desolve in the persons mouth. When the priest gave my dad the last rites he was given a piece of host the size of a tiny ant.

I am just learning a lot about Catholicism. I didn't know for instance in the last rites the host had to be dissovled.

I hope you won't take my questions and answers here to be a direct assault on you or your faith. As I explained to Joan, blabberings for no reason, causing a debate over foolish things seves no purpose. But hopefully here we can each get some answers. Perhaps we can see a little clearer view of the other's perpespective. Although I don't intend to change to Catholicism and I don't expect to convert anyone here to become a protestant, it is good to know the other's view and to know why we actually disagree. :)

I did not take any of your questions and answers to be a direct assault on my faith. Since, the host is consecrated (and only a priest has the power to do this). The host is a most sacred object. When the priest gave my dad the last rites and put the host in my dad's mouth. The priest then told me to put some water on the straw and put the droplets of water in my dad's mouth to help the host dissolve.

Catie, I don't know if you saw the post that I posted on your forum, because there were so many posts already. I was very moved with your stated about praying in your own Protestant manner as your friend's husband received the last rites. That was such an AWESOME gesture on your part!

I hope you are never offended with my questions and answers about religion. I respect all faiths.

I missed that post on my forum. Thank you. I feel as people of faith, we are suppose to pray for everyone. It is a privilege to do so. I can never get too many prayers as far as I'm concerned. :) My dear Catholic friend always calls me when she has a prayer request and I her, As do my Baptist, Methodist, Assembly of God, Presbyterian and Jewish friends. You certainly have not offended me. This is a Catholic forum and although I might not agree with some of it, a lot it or even any of it, I certainly respect these views. :)
