Subject: Anger is not a sin?

I've always thought of anger as sinful. It's one of the 7 deadly sins, I think.

"Now the works of the flesh are plain: fornication, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, anger, selfishness, dissension, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things shall not inherit the Kingdom of God."

What do you think? I thought that removing anger from the ranks of sin was a secular attempt to help people feel better about themselves and what they are doing, feeling, or thinking. I can remember the psychologists on TV shows saying something like, "Thinking bad thoughts isn't a sin." But that's not what I was taught.

What about you? Do you consider anger a sin? Do you think that hoping that bad things happen to someone you don't like is a sin?

I've always considered anger to be a sin. Yes, I think that hoping that bad things will happen to someone you don't like is also a sin. I can remember when I used to go to confession and I would say to the priest that I had bad thoughts. Then, he would ask me to explain what kind of bad thoughts I had. Thinking bad thought has always been a sin in my book. That is what I was taught.

I just turned on 20/20, and they are talking about the seven deadly sins. At the moment they are talking about Vanity.

I believe that there are times when anger is justified. When Jesus overturned the tables at the temple, is 1 such case. Acc to the Bible, he also scolded his followers on a few occasions. Sometimes, it is our duty as Christians to rail against iniquity and injustice.

In short, I do not believe that RIGHTEOUS anger is a sin. However, it must be applied in small doses, lest we chase away folks with our constant rants and raves. Folks who act that way all the time are seldom taken seriously, are they?

Take care, God Bless,

Phil from not-so-angry AZ

The bible says to "Be angry and sin not". Then I guess according to that, the two can be separate. :)
