Subject: Are Jesus and the Blessed Mother, Jewish or Catholic ?

I often wondered this question, but was afraid to ask a priest or nun. Jesus founded the Catholic Church, so does that make him a Catholic? Jesus told Peter on this rock you will build my church. Although, Jesus was Jewish, the Jewish people are still waiting for him to come. Jesus had to start his own church with people that believed he came for our salvation. I never heard the Catholic Church refer to Jesus as Catholic. I wonder if that is because the Catholic Church who believes she is the one true church, doesn't want to offend the Orthodox and Protestants by calling Jesus a Catholic.( Start a big controversy ) After all, the Catholic Church is always hoping for the Orthodox and Protestants to return home to the Catholic Church.

As for the Blessed Mother...she has appeared in apparitions asking people to pray the rosary. However, if the Blessed Mother, is Jewish, the Jewish people don't pray rosaries. Is the Blessed Mother, now a Catholic?

I'm unsure if this is the proper forum to answer your question, so I placed it on another venue. I don't think that it is controversial, but others may.

However, like Joan, you ask some great questions that I'll take a shot at answering Neysa. Take care, God Bless,

Phil from AZ

I cannot read your answer on another venue, if I don't know where that venue is ! I thank you for the great compliment about asking some good questions like Joan. That is very flattering! I have read Joan's questions and her answers on another forum. She is a very highly intelligent person.

Jesus, his family, and all of the apostles were Jewish.

The first followers of Jesus, the first Christians, were a Jewish sect. Later gentiles were allowed to become Christian without following Jewish law--dietary laws, etc.

They are waiting for the Messiah, who they do not believe to be Jesus. Jews believe that Jesus was an ordinary man.

Jesus is the Christian Messiah. When I stated that the Jewish people were still waiting. I didn't mean for
"Jesus". I meant for your Messiah.
