Subject: Exit Unicorns, Chapter 40

Chapter 40, 'I Shall Call You Hope'

'Damn, said Dannyboy Kilmorgan, stubbing his toe for the third time in as many minutes, it's as black as the underskirt of a nun's habit up here.'

Photobucket

Jamie has invited Reverend Broughton to fight. Dannyboy is less than thrilled and thinks Jamie is out of his mind.

Taunts are exchanged as the two jab and parry. Jamie takes a sound beating and Dannyboy is worried.

I kept thinking to myself 'No, it cannot end like this. Jamie cannot die or get beat to a pulp, she's writing another book, he must survive'. But I had thought 'No, this cannot happen' before, in the chapter titled 'Exit Unicorns' and damned if it didn't happen anyway. So I was having my doubts.

When Jamie falls for the last time, Broughton threatens Pamela. He admits to knowing about the train and declares that incident will be nothing compared to what he will do to her.
'From the dust he rose, fluid grace in firm place of the drunken stumbling of only seconds before.'
Thank God!!

We learn that Jamie is a Southpaw, Dannyboy had forgotten this himself. Jamie was allowing himself to be beaten down all night, but now beats the living crap out of the Reverend.
I felt he waited until he had all the information he needed from Mr. Evil before taking him down?
What do you think?

Jamie leaves Dannyboy to clean up and see Mr. Evil taken away while he goes to the healing sea.
While resting on shore, after his swim, he finds, in the heavens, a new star and feels something open and break free inside himself.
'I shall call you Hope.'

The Letter:

Pamela says her goodbye. She admits to being a spy in Jamie's household. She tells him it wasn't all about lies and deception, her feelings were true and a part of her will remain behind with him. She asks him to remember Maude.

The first time I read this I remember being quite shocked. I knew there was a Clann Na Gael connection through her father, but I never guessed she worked for them as well. I always had an inkling that there was something about Pamela we didn't know, but I never guessed this.
How bout y'all?

Thank You Cindy Brandner, for writing such a gem of a book. Thank you for following your passion and for sticking it out through all the bumps and turns in the road.
We, your fans, are extremely grateful!!
