• I have to totally disagree!From my own experience: I work in 4 states including the one I live in and I have competed in all 4 over the years. I own land in 2, grew up in the third for 18 years and the 4th one I competed only once in that state. As a LOCAL titleholder in EVERY state I worked in, I made MORE appearances than the majority of other titleholders in my "adopted" state than people who LIVED THERE!! So what is their excuse?? This happens in MAO all the time as well. Perfect example, I lost in one of these states to the winner who later won nationals. As a local queen she made ZERO appearances, as a state winner about TWO and nationally not many more than that. I did MORE as a local winner 400 miles away than she did with two consecutive titles she didn't have to set two feet out her door to represent! Sorry, if the rules don't restrict qualification by residency (such as Mrs America), then its unfair to discriminate. I'd do a better job than many "natives" and have before. • I have NO PROBLEM with gals competing for a state they work in. All my life I have lived on the board of 2 states. I often refer to myself as having an "identity crisis" because I feel so connected to both states. I have worked and done business in the other states as much as my own state. HOWEVER, the important factor is that because of the where the metropolitan areas are in the 2 states, (in conjunction with where I live), I am more up to date on issues and activities in the other state than my own!   • I've had it both ways. The times I've won however I was FIRST both times! (in larger pageants, not ones with like 3 or so). I think the bigger the pageant, the better it is to be in the middle if you are in comparison about the same level but if you feel strong, set the bar HIGH and come out 1st. Now I think some do hold scores judging but what will happen is you will be the 8 and it'll be a low scoring pageant with 6's and 7's behind you. If you're strong, I say be in the front! • Interesting question. I've never won (I've done +/- 3 pageants), but always placed. At the last pageant, I paid more attention to where I was assigned to walk and thought that perhaps the perception of my beauty could be affected by how attractive the girls on either side of me were/how well they performed. For instance, I'm of average height, and I had to perform the opening number directly next to a 6 ft tall experienced model, who ended up winning (she totally deserved it, though). Interview is important, but we're talking about walking, so I won't address that further. It seems logical to think that at least who you're standing next to can affect judges' perception of you.
