So many Teachers, Parents and Dancers lose sight of why Irish Dance competitions exist in the first place: Competitions give dancers incentive to improve their skills and technique and push them to a level of excellence they would never have achieved otherwise. Fellow competitors push each other to new standards.

Without these competitions, everyone would learn their basic dances and be done. Knowledge would quickly be lost and there'd be no new teachers with equal skills to pass on the art form from generation to generation.

Like any art form or sport, excellence is time consuming and hard work and takes a lot of commitment and sacrifice. Working towards that next goal of a higher placement, or moving up a level teaches valuable life lessons that will carry on in life.

There are and have been plenty of world champions and globe holders from non-cheating schools. The cheating schools are completely missing the point.
