We need to act like adults and reflect on the fact that this is just a game. We aren't playing for sheep stations and whilst we need rules, we also need to go back to the fundamentals of what made this game great and what are the core elements.

When I first started, there was a real buzz! Coaches were active, frantic trading and I was excited to tell my mates. Now it's a ghost town because
A) coaches get busy which is fine
B) Some coaches just don't want to deal with the nonsense
C) It feels like we are just going in cycles.

I look back at the core people who made me feel welcome
(M42/Madando, D9, Shy, Sam, MG77B, Rob) Is this the game we all wanted it to become since the Mini Draft?

Looking at the votes, we have:
- Coaches wanting rules that change the way the game is played held off until seasons end (Roos, D9, John, '51 Bewick)

- Any minor/Reasonable changes to be able to be enacted during the season

- Team Balance unlocked so coaches can run their own side/Make changes after they have played the 3 games.

IMO, If we can nut out what is reasonable changes and open the Team Balance we are home and hosed. There hasn't been any real major changes apart from the emergency sub being scrapped as it was in the AFL before this season.

But by opening the team balance, I think we just need to all agree on a process of challenging and identify what is deemed a penalty, which IIRC we did, but at the cost of some coaches who have been cruelled by injury or their players not getting a game, being slugged on top without being able to talk to the mods or their opponenet.

I remember when I had no ruck, I spoke to Sam who was my opponent and he was more than Happy for me to use Thompson as my next tallest because at this stage: Mumford was Injured, Bellchambers injured, Sinclair not playing and Vickery was not getting a game. From then on, I knew he was a top bloke and someone who just enjoyed the game.

Coaches aren't trying to rig the system. But I also understand that coaches need to draft and trade to fill needs. Maybe this is where we all discuss and come up with a solution on how to address this because I know some coaches who have top 10 picks would rather go best available then spend a top 10 pick on a ruck or KPP if they weren't top 10 in the AFL draft.

How many KPP were traded to fill needs in the Mid season trade when coaches put them up? Not many?

I had names I wanted to negotiate for the likes of Reeves and Lynch who were the talls that had garnered some interest. Some names I didn't mention because realistically I knew the coaches wouldn't take me up on them:
Caldwell
Rotham
Kemp
Granger-Barrass
Hollands

Just to give me some hope to build around if I choose to rebuild. Reeves is an 86av Ruck (yes 2 games but he is the Hawks Ruck future). I was knocked back on some names even when I bundled second and third rounders to sweeten the pot.

Not having a dig at coaches and their trade style, but it does make it puzzling when we have plenty of KPP players on the table, but not being traded. I know for some coaches it is an age thing. "Why take on an older bloke when I am rebuilding" type scenario. Others it is they won't part with a 1st or 2nd (in some cases even a 3rd).

Yes I understand the for need rules and regulations or why have them, but we don't need to be so steadfast, micromanaged.

But at the moment, I have made my mind up about next year if things cant be resolved. But if we do, who knows, Woodpeckers might make a return to the big stage.
