To be honest outcrossing to another breed is not something I would consider. I understand your concerns about the health issues in our breed but it is only by perseverance and breeding from the provably healthier dogs that we will improve these things, not by introducing another breed with potentially even more and different health issues. You would possibly experience "hybrid vigour" in the first generation or two, but that would soon be outweighed when the backcrossing that would be needed to bring back type needed to be done, so any potential improvement could well be outweighed by the "inbreeding depression" that would follow. I do know of one breeder that outcrosses to different breeds to produce his own dogs for his own particular farming requirements, but it is not something I would recommend for the general breeder as temperament could not be predicted and type would be lost.
