"Early years" for me were from around 1960 when I was in my teens, though I suppose I had been aware of, but not particularly interested in, girdles for some years before that. I'm not sure that girdle advertising was aimed very much at men except to the extent that they might be a talking point - "Would you like one of those?", for example. I don't think all (or even most?) women were greatly influenced by the advertising either. I remember women/girls I knew chuckling at some of the claims in girdle adverts. References to comfort, lightness, ease, figure perfection, etc were often mocked because, from what they said, such claims didn't match reality.
