[> Subject: Still looks like they are struggling to get participants. Tennessee looks like they had a good turn out but most of the others looked like around 7 candidates. Our local MOA pageants are attracting way more than their State so far. I thought for sure more would gravitate toward Volunteer but it didn't happen in our state.

[> [> Subject: Maybe girls are tired of MAO (1.0 or 2.0) in general. Oregon only had 18, four of which were "at large"

[> [> [> Subject: I think a lot of girls are just tired of pageants in general- the backhanded deals, cheating, backstabbing, etc. It’s gotten old, leadership is bad in many states and allows the garbage to happen. Also, pageants are just not “relevant” anymore. It’s a huge investment of time and money. The older a young woman gets, the more she sees through the whole mess. College age girls trying to win scholarships is great but once a young woman enters the workplace, she sees through the BS, especially in MAO now.

[> [> [> [> Subject: Now that is pouring some truth all over some people. I could swear you could be from my state. For almost every teen or miss competing in MAO it is a losing proposition if scholarship money is their reason for competing. This is especially true for those involved from the princess stage. When you add wardrobe, fees, lessons, gas, hotels, etc you are well into the red. If scholarship money is what you want then apply yourself to your education. I could not sgree more with the corruption, rigged competition, politics and the irrelevance of pageants in general.

[> [> [> Subject: Was very impressed by Kansas inaugural Production and the caliber of woman who competed. Personally think numbers were lower due to the last two first runners ups at MOA competing discouraged other woman. Love the new scoring system, 40, 20, 20, 20.

[> Subject: The MAO has more girls competing but does that mean anything if the majority of those contestants aren't qualified to be on a state stage? Every state is being required to hold a digital competition- video of talent & ted talk w live interview. There are no minimum contestants required- states just tell the MAO how many titles they are giving. 10 titles requested, 8 girls enter, they crown all 8. These are the girls who couldn't win a local, there as fundraisers for the girls who did win a local. When you take out the girls that shouldn't be there, the MAO doesn't have many 'real' contestants.

[> [> Subject: I don't think Volunteer had any minimum requirements. They have been holding State pageants with fewer than 7 contestants and some of those where definitely not State ready. It just seems that Volunteer has rushed to get a national pageant together. Our state had 7 contestants and probably only 3 were maybe ready for a state title. I'm anxious to see how next year goes for them. With a few exceptions, this year is a wash for me. I do like GA, SC , Mississippi,Tennessee, and Louisiana.

[> [> [> Subject: Your list was my original top 5. But I question whether they will want 5 Southern states in the top 5. Also, after more girls have ben crowned, there are some other ones I'm watching, like OK. I'm not sure who I would remove from the list though! LOL!

[> [> [> [> Subject: MAO states don't give out the free apartments anymore except maybe a few in the South. Some get use of a car. Most get nothing but expenses they have to pay out of pocket.
