] Date Posted: Thu June 20, 2024 23:39:17 I want to preface this by saying I like what Alison is trying to achieve with the Volunteer system and I am rooting for it to succeed. I also think they are a lovely family who clearly adore each other. However.... I just can't help but cringe at all the self-indulgent behavior I see from the DeMarcus family. Alison has 1000 gown changes, Jay thinks it's amateur night at the Laugh Factory (often saying inappropriate things) and they have their kids performing, one is apparently Volunteer Princess emerita. It all just feels self-aggrandizing. This isn't a local or even a state pageant - maybe that would fly there. This is a program that is trying to build a national pedigree and take over the top spot from an iconic institution. This indulgence and focus on their family just doesn't scream, "We are a serious organization and are trying to elevate pageantry." The video with Sydney Dion was perfect. They should focus on showcasing aspirational figures who lend relevance to the sport of pageantry. They also need to get a proper PR team that can help develop a stronger grass-roots movement that attracts new contestants, engages communities and fosters more robust sponsorship (including in-kind scholarships from universities). Right now, the program is reading like a top-notch state pageant. I'm just not seeing the vision clearly articulated and I think the over-indulgence of the DeMarcus family would be a turn off to would-be sponsors viewing the pageant for the first time. They have such a strong foundation and they could be successful, but it's time to get serious and stop with the DeMarcus Family Fun Hour. [> Subject: Yes! If offering a free live stream, then they need to stop with the family singing live and put on some sponsored commercials breaks. Let the family sing for the in person audience on prelim nights, but what is aired has to do better. The camera angles are poor, the camera shots showing Alison backstage, Jay seems inebriated… It comes across as state pageant. And the only singers and dancers that should be on that stage are the talent of the girls competing for the title. I love the idea of the live band but it has to be well rehearsed. For SS the band sounded off rhythm and key.

[> Subject: I hate to admit it; but I agree with you. I love how proud Alison is of her family and they seem like genuinely good people but you're right. It DOES kind of feel like the DeMarcus Family Fun Hour and it just comes across as a bit unsophisticated. I hope Alison will step back and look at the production in an objective way and ask herself, "Could this be a primetime show on network TV?" Right now, the answer is no.

[> Subject: Is Alison’s sister still involved in the pageant? And her niece? She used to do all the production numbers with Alison’s daughter, in matching outfits.

[> Subject: I'm so glad someone said it. I agree, they seem like a nice family, but all the attention on the family has been quite cringy to watch. Allison needs to be directing this program, not emceeing. Her husband, bless him. Please just get him off stage. And the children, let's find somewhere else to showcase them. It is all just a bit much. As someone said, it's time to get serious and be a bit more professional.

[> [> [> Subject: This blind devotion doesn't do the program any favors. Any good, sustainable organization needs to be able to practice rigorous honesty and take credible challenge. I'm not seeing something that A-list sponsors and broadcast/streaming services would pay for. They are off to a good start, but this is not a sophisticated production.... and it's fine to be pro-family and despite the platitudes, maybe the world does need more family bonding...but do that at home. They are not the Mandrell Sisters or the Osmond Family. Build the business, build the brand - find the "so what" that makes this pageant a real product.

[> Subject: Personally I love Allison and Jay Emceeing. Would love to see just a little of the banter then mostly serious and respectful. I love the kids but this should be their last year “in” the show. I know it's hard when you have kids - but it's time to move into the next phase. There are other ways to include them.

[> [> Subject: Agreed - it was much more about the competition and the contestants. The personality videos were a nice touch - but it would be nice if they could talk about issues with more substance...leggings vs. yoga pants? Really? I don't think that's elevating women and revealing their intellect.

Date Posted: Sat June 22, 2024 13:20:50 I agree 1000%! After 3 years and 6 pageants later it’s the same thing year after year. Production needs a major overhaul. It’s outdated. The same girls singing, same dance moves, band/orchestra on stage. Nah it’s tired. I’m ok with Jay as co-emcee for the first two night but for Fri and Sat need someone else. No offense but Allision and Christine should take a seat too. Don’t get me started on the forever Princess that’s Alison’s daughter. Come on….time for her to move on. To have all these connections and not use them is a shame. I did appreciate the commercial style videos, those were a nice touch this year. The TV camera angles have been bad. Shots of the girls onstage are sometimes too close, you can see the MC’s can be seen entering and exiting the stage. Need folks who can manage camera angles better. As far as judges, this years panel seems better. I only disagree with one prelim winner and that was SC in SS. She was just too thin. There were other young ladies who were physically fit. Would love to see some thought given to updating the show and making it a national pageant to rival others. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

[> [> [> Subject: Love what they are doing and seem to truly care about the contestants and providing an excellent experience, however the gown changes are comical. DO the kids have a life outside of helping mom with her pageants? Kimd fo sad but they do seem to love each other and have fun.

Date Posted: Sun June 23, 2024 22:49:28 IMO I thought Christine was great and always has been as an emcee. I’d like to see more of her onstage emceeing live and doing the pre show again at the “Crown Club” thing. She’s so good on camera and onstage as well as working with the live show…. Wish we had seen more of her in the pre show and during the show. She brings an energy to the program’s live show. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

[> Subject: Have the stupid people watching Volunteer and even Tennessee when Allison was running it, the Auditors NEVER give her the Top 12 after the Top 16 is announced, and the Top 10 is never given to her from the Auditors during the show. Only the Top 10 in EG and Swimsuit are being scored when there are 16 and 12 on stage.

[> [> Subject: They are pretty transparent about this. The 11-16 spots are only based on prelim scores so no need to get that from the judges. They already know. Only the 10 are being scored on final night so she only needs to get the list of 5.
