Who could fail to notice Eques�s explosive entrance? Not Taran, that was for sure, and he watched the young man make his way around the Hatching Sands with frank amusement. Well, at least someone interesting had arrived, at last. Atiyana was alright to talk to, but she did seem to have a habit of going off to talk with other people. So when Eques approached him and spoke � albeit not giving Taran or himself time to draw breath, the young man grinned.

Almighty Dragonhatcher? What on Pern? For a moment Taran felt stupid � Arden would have known what the other boy meant � but then he got it, and shook his head. In truth, he was jealous of D�raco � after all, he had walked away with the third dragon to hatch, and been a catalyst for the first one � but it didn�t mean anything. This guy was far more interesting, as well, even if he was suspiciously (in Taran�s view, at least) interested in Atiyana.

�Nah. Haven�t met him.� He responded with a smile. �The girl�s called Atiyana, though. I�m Taran.� He extended a hand. �She�ll probably come over here soon, though.� A nod of his head indicted Ati. �You new here?�

((Sorry it�s kinda bad, I�m trying to do RS coursework at the same time�.
