I've rec'd replies to this post so I'll answer here.
This happened in the early 90's. We were both early 20's.
We're still married. Yes the spanking was a total shock every time but especially when I saw my fiance getting it that first time. There had been multiple threats but I thought they were just that and nothing more.
I was not raised with spanking but it was still around with some of the families I knew. Didn't usually hear too much about it but it definitely existed and was used. I'd had a boyfriend in high school who had me over his lap once for a few smacks, and I'd received a birthday spanking from friends that I felt but nothing serious.
When I was first spanked by my mother in law (to be) was a w/e my fiance had gone away with some of his buddies, it was just guys. I didn't disagree when he told me about it but it rained most of the w/e where I was, I was bored and getting upset with him though it wasn't his fault. I started complaining a little and it increased and got worse as the day wore on. My mother in law made suggestions of things to do, offered me her car to go out etc. but I wasn't accepting any of it.
I have to admit at this point I was being bratty. By late afternoon, early evening I was really a handful and snapped at my mother in law. She scolded me but I snapped back and went off about my fiance which included cursing. That was the last straw and she let me know it.
She grabbed my wrist, (I knew I'd gone too far immediatly) she pulled me into her, bent me at the waist and smacked my butt hard a dozen times or so. She stopped, i apologized thinking okay I screwed up and wouldn't do that again and it wasn't too bad but glad it was over. She ordered me to get my shorts down, I resisted and she said it again but now she started unbuttoning them. She was really angry and you knew not too give her crap at that point. m I was protesting but didn't try to stop her either. She dropped my shorts and told me to step out of them then she took my wrist again. She smacked my butt hard on my panties acouple of times and told me to get upstairs. I went, she followed and told me to get in her room.
For all intensive purposes it was pretty evident what was happening but in my head I hadn't fully accepted that I'd get another spanking. I wanted to believe I was going to be yelled at or lectured or put in my room.
In her room she got the same hairbrush as before from her bureau and said I needed a good dose of it. I freaked remembering when my fiance was getting it. I begged and apologized profusely, backing away but with no where to go unless I jumped onto the bed. She stood there and sternly ordered me to her. It took a few times, I was aware I wasn't talking her out of it and she asked if I wanted her to get her belt offering to give me the whipping of my life. my MIL started counting and for whatever reason the counting caused me to reluctantly go to her. She didn't sit on the bed but put her foot up on the bedrail and told me to get over her leg. I did as told, she pushed me forward so my feet were off the floor, my hands were on the bed and my butt was facing my mother in law or the ceiling. ( Very embarrassing!)
Without a warning she brought the brush down and I involuntarily lurched forward and let out a scream that did nothing to stop her. She brought the brush down again and again all over my butt! I was a kicking crying mess with a very hot and sore rear by the time she stopped. She had been scolding me as she spanked me but none of that was registering. When I was let up I grabbed my butt and couldn't stop rubbing. I was then scolded to my face and told that I got exactly what she thought I'd probably needed for a long time and that was what I'd get in the future if I needed it as her daughter in law. She told me to turn around and she moved my hands from my butt and pulled my panties down in the back.
Turning me to face her she said that would be with me for awhile and warned that if she hears language like that again I'd get my mouth washed out. (I took her threat seriously) She hugged me and told me I needed to go to my room to think and get calmed down. I said I was sorry and this time I meant it then I quickly went to my room panties were still down.
In my room I went onto the bed and cried then processed everything. Checked my butt in the mirror and couldn't believe how red and sore it was. (I really felt sorry for my fiance, he'd gotten it much longer than I did.) Later on I was downstairs, things were back to 'normal' I asked if I could use the car to go to the movies, so I went. I was almost wondering if she was going to say I was grounded or something. But all was forgiven and after we'd talked briefly after I went downstairs nothing more was said. I'd also totally stopped obsessing about my fiance going away and my boredom. (Me, me, me?) I guess it worked because I wasn't upset or anything when he came back which I may have done previously and have done after getting married. I don't think my mil ever said anything to her son about the matter either.
He did hear about it though and actually everyone did to my embarrassment.
It was at a bridal shower his mother gave me for mostly his family because they were all in that area. My mom had one for my side of the family and friends back at home. ( It was women only so my fiance wasn't there)
The living situation came up (Me with my fiance and his mom, I had my own room) My MIL was saying how everything had worked out great, we were able to save the money we were making, we all got along great etc. Someone asked if I was a good houseguest? My MIL said that I was a good house guest and usually very easy to live with and added that she did need to have me across her knee but it was only the one time, saying "the hairbrush really did a good job" and that "I was a quick learner". She mentioned her son saying he was another story and he's still learning. My mom and sisters were present so later on I was asked and had to explain what happened. I didn't give details but had to admit I really got spanked.
This is longer than expected so I'll answer the other questions later.

PS the night I got spanked, I went to the movies but almost left early because I was so uncomfortable sitting down. I squirmed a lot.
