It's much heavier than a belt, and you feel the difference from the first stroke. It is awful, by design. Looking back, I have to admit that it's appropriate for older kids, especially ones who find themselves in more serious trouble. Yes, it was embarrassing to get a bare bottom spanking from dad. My sister didn't like it anymore than I did. The worst parts were taking off my panties in front of him and bending over for the spanking knowing that he could see a lot more than just my bottom! My friend didn't know it was really a strop that the barbers all had one attached to their chairs. When I was growing up, a "mild" spanking like that would be reserved for an early preteen just being introduced to a belt.
