I wasn't allowed to "complain" about being spanked. So Id force myself to limit my words to "Please Mommy", "I'll be good" and various promises to always be a good girl. I'd also promise not to repeat the offense that led to the spanking.

Mom and Dad used that to judge if I was truly sorry for what I'd done.

I overheard a mom saying “Why?/Why?/Why? over and over again with each spank. My ex said that when her younger sis was being spanked, she said “My sunburn!” After which her which her mom paused to ask what. “My sunburn!” came the reply. Mom: “Good, let’s make you red all over,” and continued.

Then there is the pause and the “Have you learned your lesson?” question. “Yes, YES Mommy!,” followed by the occasional dreaded response, “Let’s make sure,” and more spanking.

Actually,
Begging and pleading is the last thing you want to do. I know, I do it. Unfortunately that just reinforces to our parents that they are on the right track and to keep on going.

I see your point about defiance. I don't have to worry about that anyway because I always beg and plead. How can you not.

I think it's better to beg and plead. Trying to stay silent can come across as defiance.

I was all too familiar with the "let's make sure" observation.

That was a bad experience I made as an adult spankee. In my kinky circle, silence was usually seen as an expression of submission just like staying in position and following instructions. There's a limit to how long you can suffer in silence, but an effort to stay quiet as long as possible was expected and demanded. Eventually, I got punished by someone who saw it just the other way around. It hurt when she called me a "defiant little bitch" for not showing enough reaction. In that case, the problem was a lack of communication and clear expectations.

Parental spankings are probably different. My own parents didn't spank, but I imagine you quickly learn what your parents expect from you during a spanking and you can adjust to that. What might be difficult is switching "modes" between parents if they have different expectations of how you should react to a spanking.

Lessja. I didn't have that problem with my parents. They both demanded total submission. I suspect that my crying and pleading and promising to be a good girl was quite pleasing to them.
