I agree that this is absolutely no reason to back away from this for any mother of a developing boy, into that stage where he will be at his most shy about his modesty. My son was 14 when this was addressed. Should I have done it earlier, definitely yes and on an annual basis probably for years before. It is no use being wise after the fact but I only arranged once concerns had surfaced, due to scratching and discomfort, In the end my son had to be strongly coerced with force before the nurse was finally able to strip off his underpants. Despite tearful protestations his penis was fully examined, with the foreskin found to be tight, and a small cyst in his sac was found though said to be harmless.
