Hello Cordelia (I am a big Buffy fan, so the name appeals instantly!)

Thank you fo ryour message- lovely to meet another English member :) I'm in Essex, so well south of you - though has felt like NOrthern cold over the weekend!

I am in many ways relieved to find out I am not the only old ogre (as I am no doubt my kids think at times) that believes the children learn best with a sore bottom at times- and I agree that in this day and age, the hairbrush is one to be wary of, I find the larger surface area of the carpet slipper seems to impart a ound lesson without marking in concentrated spots
