Hi Mark

I’m an old timer (raised in the ‘50s and ‘60s) when not only was spanking almost universal but bare bottom spanking common as well. Despite that, I remember vividly a conversation I had with several friends at scout camp when we were 14 about spankings at home and how they were administered. By far the consensus was that (a) it was better to get a spanking from Dad than mom, despite the universal agreement that dad’s hurt more; (b) that getting spanked on the bare bottom otk with a paddle or belt by either parent was worse than getting the belt or paddled standing or bent over a couch or bed and (c) that the absolute worst was having your mom put you over her knee for a bare bottom hand spanking.
What surprised me was how common the experience was; I had thought I was an outlier as an adolescent enduring such unfair treatment.
I have to believe nowadays it is rare for this conversation to even come up with teenage boys.
