I think it's fair to admit that, even though I tend to get angry every time Gabriel does something naughty or gets into a naughty behavior, I can feel relieved and even more or less glad that he’s still on the naughty boyish side at his 14 years. Even more so if I compare it with the kind of much more serious troubles that unfortunately many children his age are already involved these days.
Putting aside for a moment the fact that Gabriel still looks and sounds like he were a little younger, his behavior often fluctuates between that of a naughty 14-year-old boy and, on many occasions still, that of a naughty even younger child.
I don’t usually resort to mentioning his age as a way to make him feel bad about himself, much less placing expectations of a supposedly more mature behavior on him only because he’s already 14. However, I try to make him realize that at his age, he must learn to process his behavior better and to finally also understand the reason for the punishment he is about to receive or has already received.
That been said, yes, today I decided to prolong the lecture a little longer than usual while I had him standing in front of me, with his face already full of tears and confessing between broken sniffles what he had done wrong and for which he was about to receive a spanking, while I slowly lowered both his blue sweatpants and green briefs in stages. You know what followed next…
