Wrenching his arm away from his sister’s grip, M’att stepped away from Synthis, hurt filling his blue eyes. Whatever it was that Lily thought he was doing, it didn’t appear to be very good – and he was upset that she would think he’d do something nasty. That his twin sister would just appear in his doorway with a brownrider and attack him was something too strange for him to fully comprehend at the moment. After all, what had he done?

“Why don’t you tell me, Lil?” he asked, meeting his sister’s eyes. “And while you’re explaining to me what I did which merited you coming in and lunging at me, maybe you could explain why you didn’t knock, and who this brownrider is?” M’att’s fists were clenched – in anger that Lily would do something like this with no reason. And there was no reason – so she must assume. And what business did she have to assume anything about him? What right did she have to think he would hurt anyone?

Ashertith’s eyes whirled orange and red with anger at this treatment of his rider – and the question posed to him by Xanth. What is going on? You have that question right, you know. I have no more idea of what your rider is doing in my weyr than you do! I have no more idea of what Lily is angry about than M’att does! What IS going on?
