Some parents are barefooters, some only in nice weather and on pleasant ground (like me), some limit their barefoot time to the home.
But regardless whether parents enjoy walking barefoot themselves, they should encourage that their children go out barefoot regularly from spring to fall, it's so beneficial in a young age! As I pointed out earlier it's important they do this regularly, best every day, and they should definitely try not just the garden and park lawns but anywhere they regularly go, around the neighborhood, into town, in school (if dress code allows). A child will grow so much faster into a true barefooter than any adult.

Encourage them but don't force them, don't deny your children footwear, let them choose while pointing out the advantages. It's a way to get them to think for themselves and judge whether the conditions are good.

Our parenting style isn't authoritarian. We give arguments, listen to what children have to say and aim for understanding. In a dirty city, on an unpleasant chilly day I would totally understand if any of my kids preferred to wear shoes but I found it's in such cases they are eager to try out their barefooting limits, and only reluctantly give in once it's almost freezing. Before that they will bundle up from ankles up ...
