Oh Ok, I think I understand by the word "principle" that you used now and by your following posts.

As for your confusion about my 7.1 question, I'll try to explain.

Since the CC won't boot as it is now with the 575 (OS 8.1) hard drive. I put the MO and the HD back in teh 575 and tried to do a clean install of sys 7.1 on the HD. That way I could delete the "previous sys folder" which is 8.1 and use the drive in the CC wiht its corresponding MO.

But the System Install App won't let me install on the HD, it says I need to update the disk etc. That the OS is too old for the mac. I checked the Apple Tech Site and the specs on the LC 575 says it can run with OS 7.1.

Well if it can what am I doing wrong to install it?
