Subject: 2020 VSPA Reunion Update

My Brothers and Sisters of the Vietnam Security Police Association,
I would like for each of you to know that your Board of Directors has been working hard to plan our 2020 VSPA Reunion in Colorado Springs, Colorado for October 7-11, 2020. As you are all aware, the COVID-19 pandemic is creating havoc throughout our country. As a result of the pandemic, the Board of Directors is conducting conference calls to ensure that we can make reasonable decisions regarding plans for the reunion. Fortunately, time is on our side and we are discussing many items related to our time together. The Reunion Brat has contracted our hotel; however, to avoid potential problems with travel restrictions related to the pandemic, we want to postpone making reservations until we are certain that the restrictions will be lifted. Reservations will be open to you when we decide to send out the Reunion Flyer and develop the registration packets. Further information will be available in Guardmount and mass emails.
At this time, your Board of Directors is continuing to plan as if the pandemic will be over and we will be in Colorado Springs in October. We will not make a decision regarding cancelling the reunion this year until we have more information. Therefore, I think it is wise to avoid making airline and hotel reservations for the trip at this time due to the current travel restrictions. We will have plenty of time to make decisions regarding our reunion based upon information regarding the COVID-19 Pandemic. We simply do not know if we will be able to hold the Reunion or not. My personal hope is that it is a go; however, if there is any chance that we could put our members at risk, we will not take that risk. Additionally, the Air Force Academy, at this time, is closed to the public. El Paso County, which is the home of the Academy, has the 3rd highest number of COVID-19 cases in Colorado. We are working with the 10th Security Forces Squadron at the Academy as the hosts for our visit. They are excited about our reunion and had already started to prepare for us when the pandemic was declared.
I am asking for your patience in allowing your Board of Directors to monitor the on-going situation so that we can make informed decisions for our plan. I assure you that we have your best interests at heart. I hope we are all able to enjoy ourselves at the Air Force Academy and Colorado Springs area in October. I will continue to update you with information as we move forward.
BEWARE that as Veterans of the War in Vietnam and Thailand, we all have health issues that increase our potential for being affected by COVID-19. Those issues are in addition to our age group.
Stay healthy, stay safe, avoid health risks and follow the recommendations from the CDC.
Jerry Nelson
President
