- A FAR GREATER ENDURANCE -- Terry Sasek BT 68-69 LM#687 (POEM), Tue, Dec 13 2016, 15:54:09 PST (d14-69-22-3.try.wideopenwest.com/69.14.3.22)
Our human bodies are only limited by our own minds
You can endure much more than you think that you can
When the situation called for such drastic measures
You can actually stay awake for long periods of time
It's not a very pleasant thing to do but you can
As long as you can convince your own mind you can
You will find that your body will indeed follow along
Sleep deprivation was a necessary evil during the war
Being short handed some often pulled double duty
During the daytime many of us worked our main jobs
But during those times when the enemy was close by
We'd also pull a second shift as security policemen
Regardless of how tired you may have been at the time
When Intel came of VC activity and we might be attacked
We'd pitch in to do whatever was needed to protect us
You would stay wide awake and very alert to every sound
We all knew that if you had nodded off and fell asleep
There was an excellent chance you would never wake up
For the VC were masters of this slow crawl maneuvering
Where they'd slither in like a snake waiting to strike
You'd never hear them but they were out there watching
They'd move so quietly getting closer and closer to you
Just hoping that you were exhausted and would doze off
Then they could silently slip in to slit your throat
I must admit that it never did happen at our own base
But it had happened at the Can Tho Army Airfield base
It was a great motivator to keep alert and stay awake
So during my year over in Vietnam I learned many things
One was what we had called the mind over matter game
You found out you had more endurance than you ever knew
© Terry Sasek BT 68-69 LM#687 - all rights reserved.
It always amazed me just how much endurance the human
mind and the human body could muster up when it was
absolutely necessary during the war.

- Big Thank You -- Ken Neal, Mon, Dec 12 2016, 16:52:57 PST (70-239-179-108.lightspeed.snantx.sbcglobal.net/70.239.179.108)
Recently I sent a picture of a beret flash to the U-Tapao dog handlers group hoping to find out more information. We found the beret in a back storage room at the SF Museum a week or so ago. The museum director immediately said it needed to be on display in the newly enlarged and improved Vietnam Era gallery. Guys of the 635th K-9 section stepped up and e-mails started to hit my box the next day. We identified the black beret ant the person who donated it, his years of service in Thailand, the years the beret was worn and conditions of it's wear. Records from the donor showed other items we needed to display, we located a RTG/SPS patch in our collection, and a kennel sign. Other individuals donated Thai currency and coins. The case will now be full of Thai handler stuff and will sit beneath a 56th SPS display , knife 13 display and a few other items. I have never seen a display dedicated to service in Thailand on display in the museum. We have one now Thanks to my brother dog handlers of Thailand you have done me proud. The SF Museum Board, the AETC Director of Museums, and I thank you for preserving this part of our history, WE TAKE CARE OF OUR OWN.
If you attend the reunion in 2017 come visit Your Security Forces Museum you are always welcome, it's your home.

- TIME MARCHES ON READY OR NOT -- Terry Sasek BT 68-69 LM#687 (Poem), Sat, Dec 10 2016, 0:24:07 PST (d14-69-22-3.try.wideopenwest.com/69.14.3.22)
They say that time marches on ready or not
Time will continue it's journey regardless
It takes no notice of what mankind may want
We wish we could have more time during events
Trying to take care of our personal problems
A debt we owe or finding a cure for an illness
Sometimes it's mother nature's fury striking
Say a tornado or hurricane that will not wait
For us to quickly gather up our possessions
Maybe it was in war that time would not wait
As you ran for the bunkers to avoid rockets
Or to a defensive position not quite finished
We always seem to want time to change for us
For it to go faster while waiting for something
Or to slow down when we want to avoid something
Regardless of any ones wishes, hopes or dreams
Time is blind and deaf to any of our own wishes
As they have said Time Marches On Ready Or Not
© Terry Sasek BT 68-69 LM#687 - all rights reserved.
The length of our time that we live here on the earth is
unknown to anybody else but God, we will all eventually
some day die at the prescribed time or place known only
to God, not by the Mayan calendar or some false profit's
predictions. Yet it seems that everyone wants at some
point in their lives to alter the speed of time to fit
their own special situations or their own special needs,
nobody here on our earth can change time in any way,
shape or form. I think that instead of us all wanting
to change time to fit our own needs that we should try
using whatever time we've left here on Earth to learn
what we can and to then use those lessons to help out
our fellow human beings we can instead of wasting
all of our own precious time that we have left here on
Earth by being so self-centered or just trying to look
out for only our own needs and our own desires in life.
I truly believe and think that in the very end we will
all be judged by how well we had used our time here on
Earth to help others or causes bigger than ourselves,
time will still march on ready or not without any bias
or regards for or against any of our own desires or our
own wishes in life.

- MY BROTHER WARRIORS OF VIETNAM -- Terry Sasek BT 68-69 LM#687 (Poem), Tue, Dec 06 2016, 18:00:43 PST (d14-69-22-3.try.wideopenwest.com/69.14.3.22)
My real brothers were family from their births
Though we are family to each other ever since
There are brothers to whom I owe my very life
These are my brother warriors who served with me
We all had defended our air base and our brothers
These were my Security Police brothers in Vietnam
They're still closer to me than my own brothers are
For we served a much greater cause than ourselves
They would've died for me as I would've for them
War is a most terrifying experience for anyone
Knowing at any given second you could be dead
It's something we all had faced there each day
There was one thing there that kept me strong
It was knowing that my brothers had our backs
We cared about all of our own brothers there
And each of us had relied on that very fact
You knew that they would never leave you
We all would have died to save each other
It gave you this sense of calm out there
You could stay focused on your own tasks
No matter how bad things may have gotten
I had trusted my brothers over in Vietnam
And they too trusted me with their lives
Today I honor my Security Police brothers
© Terry Sasek BT 68-69 LM#687 VSPA
Serving with these guys reminded me of the line
in that old song "He ain't heavy he's my brother"
Now it's been 47 year since our war and it is still
a fact of life that we all still keep in touch and
we check on each other too for we know that if it
had not been for each others own efforts over there
in Vietnam by our Security Police brothers and that
many of us wouldn't have survived that year which
still haunts all of us whether or not we will admit
it to anyone else. That same bond that we had back
then is the same one that our troops serving in this
current war feel for each other and that they too
count on each other over there to get each other
home safely to their families. May God always
protect and bless our own brother warriors who'll
always stand tall and defend our own freedom and
our own families and citizens back home.

My VSPA Brothers ,
We have a Viet Nam Vet (Marine)who is need of some support. A Few years ago this Brother was having brain surgery @ the VA in Portland . I made a posting at that time and Phil Carroll and one or two other VSPA members spent time visiting with David and being there for him . His name is David Nishira,100% service connected Marine .His address is 2525 Willakezie Road , Apt One , Eugene Oregon 97401 .His phone number is : 541-915-9210.He lives alone and has no family except a very ill Mother living in Las Vegas . He is mobile and can get around .He has a slight speech impediment from the surgery .He also has a hearing problem so an initial phone call might not be effective. It might be better to simply drop by or write a short note and then drop by . He is very lonely and can use all the morale support he can get .He also has a very difficult time asking for help not unlike a lot of us . All the help he can get would be greatly appreciated .
Your Brother in VSPA ,

I need some help. I ran across a flag with the Term 7 High sewn on it. My foggy brain is telling be I should know this , like from days long by and post checks. Being in SAC back then I started thinking it might be from the old days like Safe Wind, Covered Wagon, Helping Hand and all the others. Can anyone help me clear the fog? How about the Old list as well with a list of what was what; bent spear, dull sword, broken arrow. Come on I know some of you sharper troops can teach the old dog guy what he forgot.

Lost in Time
Waiting silently in the dark, long before early light
to the tick tock-tick tock of the old wall clock.
Mind frozen in another time and place,
smoke, flares, napalm, bouncing Betties and
screams of small children, blood on some and
some had none, for twelve long years the horrid
jungle game played on, but no one won.
The years have passed and time has taken its toll,
but for some the memories of that jungle war linger
on forever more.
Gone are the young warriors, gone are the enemy and gone
are the heroes, who fought and died for their homeland.
The white markers are many and the names have begun to fade away.
It’s ironic how war takes so much and leaves so little as apathy sets in,
yet the old clock ticks on as all things are lost in time!

William "Bill" Welch (April 14, 1931-May 2, 2015) was with the 633rd SPS 67-68. He was responsible for much of the security planning and response during the 68 TET. Bill was highly respected by the troops even though he hardly ever smiled at you. He was also a veteran of the Korean War. Bill was highly decorated with three Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts. I thought I would share a little about Bill with all of you. We Take Care of Our Own.

Each year we have too many of our Veterans passing away and many of them never have someone say "TK U" for UR service to this country!
As for me, I want to say THANK YOU to all of U for UR service and especially for those that have seen combat, Welcome Home!

Part 2: 49 years ago on this date 11-07-1967 at 0800 hrs in Beckley W Va I raised my hand and swore to defend this country with my life. Within the hour I was on a bus to Charleston and the airport there. After 2 airplane rides and another bus ride at 2200 hrs, I was at the Main gate of Amarillo AFB TX. Basic training started that very night. The next morning as we formed up to get started and a flight marched by. The first thing we heard was. " Rainbow Rainbow have you heard LBJ just past the word. You all are going to Vietnam you get to play with Viet Cong" What a way to start. Trying to march to the chow hall first and then haircuts. I would not change a thing. It made me a better person. Today, I had the sad occasion to attend the visitation for SrA Sebastian J. Jenkins, 823rd BDS (Safeside), Moody AFB, GA. The family, as would be expected, is grieving deeply, over their loss. I spoke with his Father and he permitted me to place a Safeside Challenge coin in the casket. I placed it gently on his folded hands and rendered a salute, as I thanked him for his service.
It is always tragic to lose a Brother or Sister-in-Arms, but to lose one, so young (23 yrs), is even more tragic.
Rest in eternal peace, Brother.

Reunion Report 2016 -- Steve Gattis, Sun, Oct 09 2016, 18:32:49 PDT (NoHost/45.73.147.131)
Hello to all.
We had an outstanding reunion and were treated like royalty by our hosts, the 6th Security Forces Squadron. We had some wind and light rain from Hurricane Matthew the night before the base tour of MacDill. While on base, there was a light wind, but no rain. We had a great time.
The information presentation regarding current operations and training was outstanding, as was the live-fire SWT demonstration. The Defenders were sharp, full of energy and enthusiasm and highly thankful for our service. It was a pleasure to talk with them during several great reunion events.
There are two pieces of news that you need to know:
1. We held elections this year. Your new Board of Directors consists of the following members:
Greg Cain, President
Hector Ramos, Vice President
Bill Marshall, 2nd Vice President
Jerry Nelson, Secretary
Richard Garcia, Treasurer
Steve Shelt, Historian
Pete Piazza, Past President
Don Poss, Director of Communications
Steve Gattis, President Emeritus
2. We select our reunion locations two years in advance so that we can begin working with the Security Forces squadrons. The reunion site for 2017 was selected last year and will be at Lackland Air Force Base in October, 2017. The 2018 reunion will be held at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Tucson, Arizona in October, 2018.
More information will follow in our next issue of Guardmount which will be published by our new volunteer Editor, Mike Kennedy, who served in the 3rd Security Police Squadron at Bien Hoa.
In brotherhood, I send my best to all of you.
Steve Gattis

Life is to short and it can be bitter or sweet
Some can never let go of the past and suffer so
They can only remember the many bitter moments
There are those who can look at the past issues
And try to only remember those good sweet times
Not wanting to recall things said or done to us
Many have lived their lives with those memories
If we can never forget the bad times we suffered
We don't really live, just go through the motions
And though many are justified in their pain felt
At some point in time we must all move on as well
Maybe we will forgive but never forget those times
Many were hurt far worse at home than in the war
They've managed to put away their anger and pain
They have moved on in life and were successful
It's hard to explain this bitterness we have felt
Or how it has controlled our lives and our actions
Many feel the need to finish the fight we never lost

SOMETIMES WE CAN FORGIVE OTHER PEOPLE FOR THE THINGS THEY HAD
DONE TO US, BUT THEN TOO AT THE SAME TIME WE WILL NEVER FORGET
THOSE PEOPLE OR THEIR OWN ACTIONS AND INJUSTICES THAT THEY HAD
INFLICTED UPON MANY OF US. WE'LL TRY TO FORGIVE AND FORGET BUT
IT IS STILL VERY HARD FOR MANY OF US, BUT WE MUST AT LEAST TRY!

SAFESIDE history wall -- Johann A Gonzalez, Wed, Oct 19 2016, 6:11:31 PDT (proxy02.auab.afcent.af.mil/153.26.178.61)
Sir,
I'm TSgt Gonzalez NCOIC of training for our Security Forces deployed at Al Udied Qatar. I came across you page and was wondering if you could help me out with something. Im trying to put together a
historian wall at our unit for our Defenders our commander who was previously part of the 820th and takes pride in the history of our career field. He always shows us clips and pictures of our Defenders during Operation Safeside. Is there anyway or know how I can get some Vietnam era patches for our defenders and commander. I understand they are probably hard to come by but it would be greatly appreciated and would contribute to history we are trying to pass on to our younger troops. If you had a flag or patches something police or safeside related it would be greatly appreciated. Thank You for your time

There is a Heritage Room at the 377th SFG at Kirtland that has a number of neat memorabilia from the Vietnam era forward.
The Unit Commander of the SFS would like to have some heritage photos, patches, posters badges in their own squadron building to illustrate the Unit's proud history and to help motivate the younger troops with an awareness of those who went before them.
Doesn't necessarily have to be a Vietnam overview, but anything dealing with 377th APS/SPS/SFS history.
Any donations of noted items would be much appreciated.

She also wanted to let everyone know that she really misses you all. She can't get on line to tell you all herself. If you're ever in Honolulu give her a call, she said her doors are always open.

Well I guess it's my place to get the on line reunion going as I started it years ago for those not going to the actual reunion. I started by naming the bases I served at: May 1966 I headed to Lackland AFB, San Antonio, Texas for basic training. Upon completion of training I was to stay at Lackland for Air Police Tech School. After Tech School I was assigned to Barksdale AFB, Shreveport, LA as security in a CDS. I volunteered for Vietnam and after training went to Phan Rang again as security. Four months later I took the extended tour deal getting 30 days unacrued leave time.
Shortly after I was transferred to Phu Bai and then to DaNang. From DaNang I went PCS to Ellsworth, SD in January. I froze. From Ellsworth I was sent TDY to Guam and Okinawa. Upon returning to Ellsworth where they were offering an early out. I was discharged after 3yrs., 10mos., and 19mos.

What a great reunion we just completed in Tampa! I second Steve’s and VSPA brother’s compliments of the 6th SFS Defenders hosts & participants. I also want to thank all of you that took the time to participate in our elections process and am honored to accept and again serve this Brotherhood of VSPA Defenders as your Vice President. Lastly I want to apologize for my early departure on Saturday & missing the traditional hugs and farewells. As you may already know, Hurricane Mathew had a greater impact on the Carolina’s than expected and I had to get back. Took some detours over two days but all was well with only minor damage. Sadly, over a thousand in Haiti & at last count 27 in the U.S. so with that I ask that we keep the still suffering in our prayers.

A pleasant Surprise!
On the 21 of November this year it will be fifty-one years ago, on a dark, monsoon night,
that I aided Lt. Roger Rucker (CoPilot) from the wreckage of his down C-123
Flareship that had just crashed off the runway, outside of the wire at DaNang, AFB.
He was seriously injured (Broken lower jaw and he had bitten through his tongue and was bleeding perfusingly!)
Last Monday, my doorbell rang and when I open the door, there stood Col. Roger Rucker (USAF 26 years).
It had been almost 51 years since the crash. We hugged each other, and I told him that the last time I saw him,
he was in shock and bleeding like a stuck pig. We had a lot to talk about and a great reunion! He is a real gentleman!
What a pleasant surprise, I never expected to see him again. He was very appreciative for my help on that perilous night!

At sixty eight years of age I'd hoped to one day find real peace
But I have finally decided to come to terms with this situation
To face the reality that under the circumstances it may never be
These are the memories we live with now and that we always will
Those images will haunt our minds until the very day that we die
No matter how many times you say it's all over, it's really not
Past scenes still play over again and again while you try to sleep
At times it causes you to suddenly wake with your heart pounding
It takes a moment or two for you to realize you're home and safe
At times those nightmares are so real you can actually smell them
Smells of the cordite from rounds fired during a defensive actions
You can feel the oppressive heat and merciless humidity once again
You relive the shear terror of mortars & artillery rounds impacting
You feel the ground heave under you as you lie as flat as possible
You pray to God you won't get killed or wounded by the enemy shells
You can hear the shells getting closer and closer to your position
You think that the next round will land right on you and kill you
So you try to get yourself even lower in hopes of not getting hit
When the shelling finally ends you thank God that you survived it
And then later on when told of others who were wounded or killed
You felt guilty since you were glad it hadn't been you who got hit
This is how it's been for forty seven years since returning home
From that war we were blessed to have survived so very long ago
We all are much older now and these are the memories we live with

"FOR THOSE WHO HAVE FOUGHT FOR IT, FREEDOM HAS A FLAVOR THE PROTECTED WILL NEVER KNOW"
I saw this message written on a wall by an unknown soldier who was serving in Vietnam,
He like most of us who had served over there and still deal with our own issues from
that war understand better than most people what the true cost of freedom was and that
too many people just take it for granted because they've always had it and they simply
don't know or care what that cost was to get freedom and to keep it throughout history
and they just don't appreciate what they have now until someday God forbid that they'll
lose their own freedom and rights here in America and if they do it will be due only to
their own lack of understanding or caring just what it took to get and keep the freedom
that they are accustom to and if they do lose their own freedom, it will have been only
because of their own apathy towards life itself here in America.

- Old Poem -- Jackie R. kays, Sun, Oct 09 2016, 9:40:44 PDT (NoHost/64.188.191.92)
From a war long past,
in valleys of tall elephant grass,
ageing boncing betties
silently waiting for arms and
legs of any innocent victims
traveling this ancient jungle
path.
Young men fought and died
in that distant jungle war,
While many others bled
and cried.
Day after day, week after week,
moth after month and year after year,
they march to the drums of that far off war.
In finality, thousands served
and thousands fought and died.
Thousands more still wonder why.
Gone are the rockets, bombs,
flares, flaming bullets and the
acidic smell of napalm in the
night jungle air.
Gone are the flags, the black body
bags, the towers, bunkers and the
monsoon rains.
That Jungle War is long over.
But the burning question
remains; was it worth those
young lives, the cost and
nightmares that forever
shall remain.
Only history shall tell
if it was all in vain.

ONLINE REUNION -- Terry Sasek BT 68-69 LM#687, Thu, Oct 06 2016, 3:51:23 PDT (d14-69-199-135.try.wideopenwest.com/69.14.135.199)
I hope that someone will start up the online reunion for our members who couldn't attend the actual reunion this year in Tampa, Florida. I will be tied up all day today as we are having all new plumbing installed in our home today
to replace the 60 year old galvanized piping that was put in back in 1956 on our brick ranch house. Hopefully it will go good and we won't have to worry about that problem ever again, I will join in with the online reunion later this evening and hopefully many of you will also join in as well. There is a need for an editor for Guardmount. If you have any PC skills such as Word or a writing grogram please consider this job. You spend most of your time cutting and pasting. It is an important position in the Association, it cements the membership in one solid organization. The difficult part is obtaining articles and information from officers and members. But the job is very rewarding. Please give this consideration and give it a try.

Man In The Tower -- Chaplain Steve, Tue, Sep 27 2016, 23:52:37 PDT (pool-173-54-172-134.nwrknj.fios.verizon.net/173.54.172.134)
The Man In The Tower
I jumped off the truck and had to walk down a dark road to a wire fence line, turn right and look for cover. A tower would be to the left.
He's the first friendly I saw on the very first night.
Way up in that tower nearly out of sight.
Fifty yards away from me.
He did have a great view I must agree.
He had weapons and flares and things to amuse.
And other things that he would use.
I marveled as he worked and watched him there.
As he spied the land and stared and stared.
I do not know who he was but was sure glad I was not alone.
These towers ran along the base perimeter and were manned
Day and night. The K 9 teams were spread out in between these towers and bunkers. They did a great job.

Ok folks, we have six golfers going to play a round of golf on MacDill AFB Golf Course on 5 Oct 2016. This means we have to leave the hotel NOLT 0630 hours to make it to the golf course in time. Here is the breakdown of who will be in each group:
GROUP #1 (0732 hrs) = Pete Piazza, Steve Hall & Mike Mahan
Group #2 (0740 hrs) = Greg Cain, Al Grabowsky & Robert Hanyok
I will be on the road so I will be out of pocket until I arrive in Tampa on 4 Oct.

The Death of Erlyce's Mother -- Steve Gattis, Thu, Sep 08 2016, 20:29:57 PDT (h115.6.18.98.dynamic.ip.windstream.net/98.18.6.115)
Hello to all.
There has been a bit of confusion regarding the death of Erlyce's mother. She lost her birth mother not our Mom Lehman who is planning to be at the reunion in Tampa with Erlyce.
Erlyce's Mom was a cop's wife, a very strong woman who protected her children from all that was possible as they grew up being the children of a cop. Her parents raised beautiful children in a very loving family and they all surrounded Erlyce with love and support when she lost her sweetheart, Millard Lehman, who was KIA at Binh Thuy. Erlyce is very fortunate to have Mom Lehman as a second Mom who has always shared her heart.
My best to all of you.
Steve

USAF Birthday -- Ken Smith LM570, Sun, Sep 18 2016, 12:55:25 PDT (47-216-179-170.kingcmtk02.res.dyn.suddenlink.net/47.216.179.170)
If I am correct, the USAF was established this date in 1947. A day or two before my time, but the 8 years I spent wearing the uniform was one of the great times of my life. Both of my sons were born at Air bases. My wife bounced around with me to each base except the two in Vietnam. I still stay in touch with a couple of guys from my former life as a Security policeman. My hat is off to the troops of today. Tough times and too many deployments. To all you old guys, like me, it was a pleasure working with you, even if we never met. The history is there and can't be changed.
I was lucky enough to be an instructor at the Law Enforcement tech school when the first female Security Policeman were brought into the career field. I remember when the Navy sent the first Petty Officers through the school so they could form a career field for the Shore Patrol. We must have been doing something right because they chose us instead of the Army MP's.
Happy Birthday to the USAF and Welcome Home to all.

Today my wife and I went for a drive and had some lunch. I was wearing my squadron hat that I got from our BX. A stranger came over to our table and stated that he was a SP at DaNang on Tiger Flight in '68/'69. We talked briefly and found some people we both new. I suggested he check out our website. I found one person he new and they had gone on R+R together.
My point is the squadron hat made the connection. If you have one wear it. If you don't have one, you might consider getting one.

Gents,
One more eye surgery on Sept 19th, and then I won't even need glasses :). I don't need reading glasses anymore, so that counts as an improvement. Although not yet perfect vision, I am beginning to squint my way through posting Weekly Graphics (no guarantees just yet), and have just posted the first new graphic on the homepage since July 2015, called the "Milky Waves". Although most nights at Da Nang's China Beach were humid and often hazy, occasionally there were moonless nights where the heavens sparkled. My research confirmed the Milky Way was known to peek above the horizon. I never actually saw that, but can imagine it over Da Nang's China Beach with a spellbound SP in a beach bunker taking it all in. I hope you like it: http://www.vspa.com/

URGENT REUNION REMINDER – OCTOBER 5 – 9 MacDill AFB, Tampa, Florida -- Steve Gattis, Fri, Sep 02 2016, 20:27:38 PDT (h118.44.20.98.dynamic.ip.windstream.net/98.20.44.118)
Hello to all.
We are at the critical point regarding reunion registrations. A comparison of the room registrations at the hotel vs. the registrations sent to the Reunion BRAT indicates that many of the reunion reservations have not been sent to the BRAT. While the deadline is September 5, she will always accept late registrations. However, we need for as many registrations as possible to be sent ASAP so that the Reunion BRAT can begin the final coordination and planning with the hotel and bus company. She MUST order and pay for all meals, the Hospitality Room, meeting rooms and the Banquet Room IN ADVANCE and she must have the cash on hand to write those checks.
Payday is here. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE send your registration and checks now so that the meals (beef, chicken or vegetarian) can be ordered and the hotel can be paid and the staff scheduled to work for us. We also need to confirm bus schedules and order meals for our lunch with the troops on Friday. All of these advance requirements are contractual issues that must be handled in a timely manner. Thank you for your urgent attention to this reminder.
The men and women of the 6th Security Forces Squadron are excited to have us as their guests. As Defenders and those who have followed in our footsteps, they have been working very hard to make our reunion an outstanding event.
DON’T DELAY! Use or copy the following direct link to read the flyer for the reunion:

On the morning of 22 Aug 2016, MSgt (Ret) Kelly M. Fields passed away after a very long battle with cancer. He was not a Vietnam Vet, but was my friend and at one time was one of my Security Flight Chiefs at Tinker AFB with the 2854th SPS before becoming the 552nd AWACS/SP. A Memorial service will be held on 10 Sep 2016 at 1400 hours for him at Bill Eisenhower Funeral Home at 8805 NE 23rd St, OKC.

I just received my copy of "Sky Cops and Peace Keepers" by MSGT Chris Arnold, Foreword by our own Colonel Jerry Bullock.
it's just out, over 650 pages of AP/SP history complete with hundreds of pictures.
I'm not a book reviewer or am I endorsing this book, but WOW, at last a book/history just about us!

Did anyone in Vietnam or Thailand ever get any training on how to extract/lower a wounded guard from a tower? Do you know of any incidents where it was necessary?

EYE SURGERY FOR DON POSS -- Steve (Gattis), Tue, Aug 02 2016, 6:30:58 PDT (h218.56.20.98.dynamic.ip.windstream.net/98.20.56.218)
Hello to all.
Yesterday, Don Poss had surgery on his eyes again. He is doing well. He is very hopeful that after the other surgeries for a torn retina and now, Glaucoma, he will once again be able to see well enough to return to his beloved programming and web site development. Until now, it has been very difficult for him to work for more than a few minutes before his vision became so blurred that he would have to stop working for at least 24 hours. Prayers mean a lot to Don and his wife, Kathy. Send them along when you have a chance and wish him a speedy recovery.
We are very fortunate to have Don as our web master. His planning and preparation for the future have allowed the web site to function as planned with a few limitations and without interruption. Problems beyond his control have been repaired. I look forward to seeing him in Tampa and enjoying more of his Vietnam related artwork in the form of computer graphics.
My best to all of you.
Steve

- SCAM On Facebook -- William (Pete) Piazza, LM #141, Sun, Aug 21 2016, 17:52:32 PDT (ip68-97-99-86.ok.ok.cox.net/68.97.99.86)
This info was posted on facebook and from the other folks that were talking about this, she is also sending out info about other vehicles like a tractor and truck too!! Be careful if U get any info from her!!! Pete
Ladies and Gents,
I am still kind of awe about this situation so bear with me. I just had a unsuccessful scam ran on me. How this relates to this group is the woman claimed she is currently active duty Air Force and she was pcsing from Offout AFB, Nebraska to another base in Alaska and claimed she could not take her vehicle with her. I called to the base where I was previously stationed and had a coworker check her name in global. No person in the Global under that name. Ther...e was a listing on the offer up app I use. I called, no answer then received a text from the number to reach her at an email address. I found out about the scam when I called EBay Motors to verify the invoice #. This is what is going on with someone using a fake Active Duty status. Despicable.
FYI, the phone number where it came from was
(262) 737-8443, claiming to be her brother, the woman's name was
Silvia Turner, and the email she used was silvt172@gmail.com
This was in regard to a 05 Honda Accord with 71k miles for $1500.
Scam. Be aware.
