Subject: Dogs and fireworks

Every year around July 4th and New Years Eve, lots of loud fireworks are set off, causing a lot of anxiety among dogs. I don't own a dog, but I love them, so I wondered if the fireworks might be emitting a high frequency sound (think: dog whistle) that is especially hurtful to K-9s? Do any of you who own dogs have ear muffs or hearing protectors specifically for your pooch that actually work? If so, what brand have you purchased? Thanks from all the dog owners in my Facebook friends list.
