Some may disagree but do we really think an X-Files theatrical movie is going to bring in the crowds other than the true fanatics (like us?). The show lost a lot of the devoted in the last two seasons as well. So making a movie geared toward casual fans might be a moot point. Would enough of them care one way or another?

I think it migh be better to stick to tv and just do a reunion type television movie. Could be two and a half hours or something. More people would watch, I think, since it's free and there wouldn't be as much pressure to try not to alienate casual viewers (like with the first movie when they decided not to have Krycek because he was too hard to explain). The whole X-Files saga has a complicated back story so no matter what they do it's going to confuse a new viewer unless they seemingly start from scratch--and I think that does an injustice to the characters and the fans. Some of those missing Season 8 and 9 viewers left in part because so much of the past history was abandoned for new storylines so that shows it didn't work well to do that.

We lived with Mulder and Scully for 9 years(well, less with Mulder). Should we have to pretend everything that went before is unimportant because we have to appease non viewers?
When the Star Trek movies were big there were a lot of in jokes and references in those weren't there? I was never a big ST fan so I probably missed out on some of the inside comments that Trekkies knew inside out. But the films were still enjoyable. I don't think it's fair to start all over every time. What if--though I highly doubt it--they make a series of XF films? Can none of the past be incorporated? If a new movie viewer wants to learn more to understand things better they can watch the reruns on Fox, Sci Fi, TNT or rent the DVDs and vidoes, which I think would be an advantageous way to play it profitwise for Fox.

Well I'm just shooting off thoughts! No argument. :-) My only hope is that if they do make a movie it's good and true to the characters the way we grew to know them and to me that means their past as we've seen it must be reflected.
SMH had some good ideas. Probably better than what CC or Fox is trying to dream up.
