Det, while you make some good points about not being able to undo what's been done, IMHO that is the good thing about M&S being *fictional* characters. . .if we just want to pretend that certain season nine events didn't happen, we're free to do that. And to appeal to the teenagers who make up the bulk of the moviegoing audiences (and who were toddlers when XF began as a TV series, and so are unlikely to have been loyal, longtime viewers although they probably know who Mulder and Scully are and have some vague idea that X-Files was about aliens and other weird stuff) they can't have *too* much of a convulted back story involving children who have been placed for adoption, etc.
Maybe I'm predjudiced because I only watched about half the season eight eps and none of season nine except the series finale. When season nine began did they *say* it was the day after the events of "Existence" or did people just sort of assume it was taking up right where season eight left off?
