the December 2 episode of "The X-Files" was 68th in the Nielsen ratings. Whether these ratings lead to this truly being the final season of "XF" will, I think, say a lot more about how the Fox network views itself than it will about "XF", per se.
By the standards of the big three networks, the decision to cancel a former top 30 show that now can't even crack the top 50 is a no-brainer. But, by the standards of the minor networks, like WB or UPN, any show that can make it into the top 80 is a hit. For last week, XF was actually Fox's lowest-rated drama, although there were several other Fox shows (comedies, movies and "reality" shows) that did worse.
