Subject: I think the biggest problem with Doggett. . .(vague s8/9 spoilers)

was that they tried to make him too much like Mulder, too much a "replacement" for Mulder. Let's face it, they were
both fortyish, childless, unmarried white men. (Okay, okay, I'll even go so far as to say they were both "attractive", even though, IMHO, RP is not in the same ballpark with DD in that area.)Yes I realize there were differences, in that Doggett *had* been a husband and father at one point in his life, but the similarities just brought about too many comparisons, which were almost always unfavorable to Doggett.
I think they should have gone with a completely "different" sort of character for Doggett, and I began saying this before season 8 even premiered: they should have made him a twentysomething black or Asian-American man, a happily-married-with-kids man, a sixtyish man nearing retirement age. . .I don't care, just something but another guy who was virtually identical to Mulder as far as race, age and marital status.
I also agree totally with det that they mishandled the Skinner and Doggett roles. They should have made Skinner the leading man in Season 8 and brought Doggett in as a supporting character at that time. Then, if neccessary, elevated Doggy to leading man for season nine.
