Wow, Rab! I had originally made the case for the IVF procedure happening in season six and the consumation of the MSR happening in season seven, but you make such a convincing argument for the consumation happening late in season six that I think I may have to agree with you.
There's one other incident that I think kind of supports this theory. Near the end of "The Sixth Extinction", early in season seven, Fowl Thing and CSM are trying to restrict Scully's access to Mulder while he's hospitalized. Scully says (I think she's talking to Skinner): "They may be able to deny access to Mulder's partner but not to his" — then there is a very long and dramatic pause - "doctor". Based on what we now know, I think it's reasonable to assume she may have been debating whether to say "doctor" or "lover"; as if trying to decide which relationship would carry more weight with the hospital staff.
