People often demonstrate extraordinary feats -- however, these are all merely forms of anecdotal tales and form no real basis of presenting true evidence to back their claims (since anecdotal evidence is considered to be the weakest form of evidence there is).

Also, you mentioned that there were a series of steps leading up to the visualisation of the steel ring. This *could* be a mild form of hypnosis where the people involved truly believe that there is a steel ring around the thumb and finger and cannot pull it apart -- much like how hypnotists can make people eat a raw onion, believing that it is a juicy apple, or walk around clucking like a chicken.

What would be more interesting would be if the partner was isolated from the experiment and after the first person had been made to visualise the steel ring, asked to come in afterwards and pry the fingers apart. And of course, as any scientific experiment demands, the trial would have to be repeated several times with several different subjects (e.g.: types of people -- the Force can have a strong influence on the weak-minded) to see if this feat can succeed with absolute certainty.

Now, even *if* this proved to be true and could work with absolute certainty, one would then present another question -- can anybody learn to do this? And how long does it take to master the technique? A week? A month? Half a year? A decade? A lifetime? A martial art technique is not terribly useful if only a very select portion of the population are able to do it (hence the average person is selected out) and if it takes a long time to gain at least a rudimentary level of proficiency at it. You wanna fight -- and you wanna fight now.
