Subject: Is Murphy’s the only Eastside of Cuyahoga County, Ohio ID school?

Curious about any other options but don’t want to travel far. We just bought a house in Solon and new to all of this snow.

LOVE CLE! I don't live there anymore but there may be an ID school in Chesterland that's good (Egan).

Leneghan has a studio in Euclid which does get more snow sometimes. Murphy’s is probably your best bet. This is where Egan went and he started his own school 5ish? Years ago.

Murphy’s is well known and respected as they have been in this area for almost 50 years.

There are more on the westside but you may really dislike driving on 480 in the winter - especially the 480 bridge. I’m a former southern and I avoid it!

I think Burke is good but you have to go west!
Murphy's as noted above.
Wow, did a quick google, there's not many choices in C-town. GO BROWNS (sort of)

You always have The Academy (Strongsville) ;)

Brady Campbell, Burke, Cannon, Leneghan (west side)

As mentioned, Egan and Murphy are east side ish.

MacConmara (Akron)
O'Kennedy Holland (Medina)
Smyth (Richfield)
The Academy (Strongsville)

Egan is a great option. As mentioned above, they have a studio in Chesterland which would be 20/25 minutes from Solon depending on where your house is located. Egan will also be taking over the Smyth school in Richfield as of January 1. The Richfield studio is probably a few minutes further from Solon than the Chesterland studio but it’s close to I271 and not in the snow belt. :)

Burke and Brady Campbell are also really good choices and should be less than 30 minutes from Solon depending on where your house is located.

You have lots of great options. :)

Smyth is a great school, why are they they closing? Egan's small but mighty--and 25 miles away from Richfield!

The owner of Smyth wants to focus on her family. :)

[> A smart TCRG would open a school in or close to Hudson. Macconmara used to have a Hudson studio -- High income area for ID, 09:23:14 12/14/24 Sat (NoHost/146.75.223.107)

Irish Dance is expensive and most Hudson families have the income. The average Hudson income is much higher than most cities in Ohio. There are dancers from Macconmara, Smyth, Brady Campbell, Burke and The Academy that live in Hudson. Possibly other schools too.

Mac used to have a Hudson Studio that seemed to do well but closed years ago when the teacher that taught there moved out of state. There was a CRN school in Hudson but most transferred out of the school because it was so unorganized and a general mess. (We started there). Schedules changed pretty much weekly and was unmanageable for families doing anything besides dance.

Populations have changed and many studios are in low income areas (Cleveland), that some families will not drive to. Look at price differences in Ohio. Lessons range for OC dancers for $100-$400+ a month plus more for teams. Many families will pay more for closer/better/safer cities for dance lessons. No one is going to look first at a school more than 30 minutes away and in the snow belt either.

These families all know of the CLRG cheating and drama so a different org (not CRN), would probably do amazing here. There are independent and RTN/CNRG schools in southern Ohio and PA that offer 2-3 feis a month. Someone just needs to bring a studio North. If a decent studio opened in Hudson, we would probably transfer even though we love our school. We have a large family nd kids activities can be hard to juggle with drive/pickup time.

There is an empty dance studio - the old CRN school in downtown Hudson and many dance studios in Twinsburg/Hudson that will rent space to other schools. This is what Mac did years ago. Smyth definitely has the highest amount of Hudson dancers since Richfield is close/good location and a supportive and honest school. If we were new to ID or going to change and Smyth wasn’t closing, we would transfer here. Hopefully their studio will stay as equally amazing as it sounds when their dancers and families talk about it.

[> [> Egan isn't bad even in snow belt -- I get your point honestly, 10:13:13 12/14/24 Sat (d-69-171-195-3.oh.cpe.breezeline.net/69.171.195.3)

If you can afford ID get an SUV or put snow tires on your car! :)

Also Chesterland is a well-off area like Solon.
From Solon to Egan it's only 20-25 mins, just head up 271 or take 91 or 306 over to 322 if one is concerned about poor roads.

[> [> [> You should google that. Chesterland is a much lower income level. A Hudson Studio would do very well -- Hudson Mom - not from Smyth lol, 12:28:53 12/14/24 Sat (NoHost/104.28.76.252)

Most Moms from Solon, Hudson etc drive SUVs. No snow tires needed. You must be connected to Egan whomever is posting with your Breezeline IP address. Nothing against them

Most people use public WiFi’s, VPNs, Apple Relay etc. so they aren’t easily figured out who they are on anonymous Voy boards. I think you may believe that OP and another poster are the same since the IPS are close but I doubt they are. A new to the area Mom wouldn’t know the info that was posted.

We have over 11 Irish Dancers within a mile of my home. So Hudson would do very well. Hudson also has several parents that were Irish Dancers themselves and a non-CLRG school would probably have a lot of transfers. Good luck to all involved - the new to the area family and Smyth dancers, the few that we know from competitions are very nice and great dancers!

Hudson is a great town! Was just mentioning Egan because it is fairly close per Google Maps. Not affiliated with them either.

Have a great day! Hudson reminds me a little bit of Skokie or Schaumburg. I have been to St. Mary's parish there, it's lovely. They, along with Christ Community Chapel, are great.
