» Briar didn't see her. Didn't see anything, really. He'd forgotten about the bird and released it, and it hopped away a bit, then gazed back at the wolf warily.

» The boy's head slid and now the upper part of his cheek rested heavily in the dirt. His breathing was so shallow, it was impossible to tell whether or not he did, in fact, breathe at all, except for rasping with each inhalation. Struggling a moment for balance, he nearly slipped onto his side. Something stopped him; somewhere, buried in animalistic instinct, the thief knew if he went down, there would be no getting up. He half-successfully drew up his knees more underneath him and closed his eyes. God, the pain was unbearable, the blood--so much blood--flowing faster with a nauseating squelch for the several, long seconds the movement took.

Go away, jus' go away all of you.

» He took another breath, this one deep and shuddering, and something akin to a sob got loose from his mouth, wracking his body.

"Leave me...alone...god, jus' let me lie here...

» Briar didn't realized the first three words had been said allowed, hardly understandable when mixed so heavily with a Hajaran street accent and the low groan. Indeed, he had not the presence of mind to realize that he had spoken (and thought) them at all. He fought a loosing battle to stay conscious, and was overcome, despite any encouragement to do otherwise. Blinking once dazedly, his eyes only half-opened once more, and then slipped closed entirely.
