Subject: More about demons

What is a Demon?

The best catch all phrase would be "minion" to describe a demon.

Homer calls Aphrodite a demon, and she was the goddess of love. So there was not aN EVIL pre-requisite in Greek culture. It is assumed that a demon was a lesser god. Not human, but not living on Olympus either.

The three types of demons we see are:

1. A being that has once been a natural creature, but now exists in the supernatural. Examples would be: ghosts, poltergeists, etc. They seemed to be surrounded with a desire to fulfill something left undone while living.

2. A being that is half human, half divine. The greeks had a lot of these because they were offspring of relationships between gods and humans. Examples are: the minotaur, and possessed people.

3. The third type is any demon that does not fit any of the above, that is totally supernatural. These are the ones that cause the most concern because they cannot be understood or influenced. These are most often given credit for natural disasters , and sickness.
