The oldest evidence that we have of a belief in supernatural beings that could be called demons comes from the time of Sumer (3300 BCE).

It is amazing that even at this early time it seems that people had a very developed system of belief in the supernatural. These early people were also comfortable with the idea that demons exist.

Further note:

Most early writings were related to religious topics (the other most common is law).
