I am in a similar position, having run my Ralt RT30 for three races this year. At the time I bought the Ralt (as a bit of a basket case) there were many 85->89 cars racing so, whilst I did not expect to be particularly competitive, I did expect to have some good races with similar cars. My feeling after my outings this year is that the series has moved on and that the RT30 is no longer a sensible option. However, I have been able to buy a 1991 Dallara and hope to be out for a full season next year with this car. The RT30 will sit in the corner of the workshop until we can find a role for it, maybe in historics. I will probably sit out the rest of this year (the Dallara has to be paid for somehow!!).

I spent some time comparing the 2000 Snetterton race and the 2002 Snetterton race whilst I was making this decision. There are some interesting notes (which I repeat here from memory - but I think they are accurate):

1) 27 cars started in 2000
2) 19 cars started in 2002
3) 19 cars finished in 2000
4) 9 cars finished in 2002

My RT30 would have been about 16th overall in 2000, in a bunch of similar cars. I was basically a lonely last place runner in 2002 - hence the decision not to run in ARP again in the Ralt.

A natural result of the way the ARP series moves the date cut off forward? Yes, without doubt, and something which you accept when you enter the series.

Is the overall grid size a cause for concern? I'll let someone who has been involved in the series for longer to answer that!

Of course, if I am no faster in the Dallara than I was in the Ralt, that could also prove a point ......
