Even Braden couldn't help the way his lower lip curled up a touch as the young girl laughed in delight at the big dogs antics. The expression disappeared quickly though and he was thrust back into reality. He was now the guardian of a seventeen year old girl. Sure, at twenty four, there was a mere seven years between them but seven years felt like a lifetime when a person had been through all that he had. His eyes leveled on her for a moment before he spoke, his voice low and thick. "You look like your brother." He stated, his voice almost accusing, as if she dared to haunt him so obviously with the fact that he had failed everyone in his batallion. How was he supposed to live with those eyes looking back at him all the time? He watched them for a moment, judging Braden's expression before he looked back to Courtney, a small smile on his face when he looked at her. She just seemed to make everything better with her presence, made his soul rest when it had been churning inside of him. He had been pretty successful at just refusing to acknowledge that Gia was even in the same state as he was, he just lived in constant denial. He was concerned about the baby of course, and inquired to it's condition as soon as the doctors had examined her but other than telling him there was a heartbeat they hadn't had much to say. He had to content himself with that, it was a strange feeling, to feel like he was obligated to the child but not being able to even look at Gia for fear of blasting her with the dark emotions that came to the front whenever he even thought about her.
