Subject: Oireachtas Discrepencies

I always figured all oireachtas were the same size as a mid American region mom until I saw pictures posted from places in the UK. Wtf is the north west region… is that a joke?! I always thought I heard the UK was tougher competitively but that cannot be the truth. We have more dancers at an extremely small feis than they do at oireachtas. What gives?! My daughters comp had over 200 and the same age group didn’t even have 15. I would’ve thought Irish dance would be more popular there vs America.

Ireland is the size of Illinois. Ireland has 4 qualifiers. Illinois is in a Region with 15 other states. It is not fair distribution and CLRG doesnt care. (NT) -- Been discussed for decades, 08:22:47 12/03/24 Tue

Don't forget that a section with 200 dancers has many more qualifiers than a section with 15 dancers. North American regions need to be smaller. Our region in Australia has very few dancers, most girls sections under 10 dancers and all boys sections only 1 or 2 dancers. (NT) -- -, 13:09:33 12/03/24 Tue

Yes but Ireland and UK have better standard of dancing. Take U22 and U11 age groups in Leinster. Or Munster or Ulster. The standard is higher and less qualified than in USA. Most qualifiers in USA will not recall at worlds. (NT) -- X, 00:54:34 12/04/24 Wed

Reality is only a tiny handful of your 200 would be able to compete against the elite WMH standard set in UK/reland. You may have numbers which figure given the size of your country but not quality. Also qualifying places relative to your entry so you do get far more places and keep in mind many UK/Ireland results posted are recall only places.
