Subject: Jesus and Samuel Lee

I want to my last posts on this forum to provide answer some ideas proposed by UBF defenders.

This was posted in defense of UBF by Brian Karcher:

I wonder how some "cult-watchers", like Ron Enroth, would handle the "authoritarian" John Wesley who expelled sixty-four people from a Methodist society-- some for "minor" infractions like quarreling, idleness, and "lightness and carelessness"? Or what would he say about a charismatic religious leader (Jesus) who insisted his personnel take nothing with them on an extended mission: without money, adequate clothing or even food? What would he say about uneducated country men (the disciples) purposely avoiding the Gentiles and searching through villages to find a place to stay? Sounds like someone inflicting spiritual, emotional and physical abuse!

UBF has been classified as a cult. Mr. Karcher decided to provide an example of how Jesus sending his disciples on a mission journey could also be considered cultlike activity. The implication being that Jesus’ actions could be comparable to what is defined as an abusive cult. The argument being that church leaders who follow Jesus’ example in how He treated his disciples, will be considered cult leaders by present day cult watchers. More specifically, if Samuel Lee, UBF’s cofounder, followed Jesus’s example in how he treated his disciples, he will be considered a cult leader by present day cult watchers.

Let’s compare! How does Jesus compare to Samuel Lee?

Jesus told his disciples to take nothing with them on their mission journey and to preach to the Jews.
Samuel Lee told some of his disciples to walk barefoot for many miles because they did not meet the numbers quota or did not write a testimony pleasing to Lee.

Jesus told his disciples that he gave his life so that all who believe will have eternal life.
Samuel told his disciples that if they to do not feed sheep, they will go to hell.

Jesus told his disciples to take his yoke, because his yoke is easy and his burben is light and we can find rest for our weary souls.
Samuel Lee told some of his disciples to submit to beatings from fellow UBF members beatings because they did not register enough people for the conference.

Jesus told his disciples to go into all the world and preach the gospel to Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
Samuel Lee told his disciples to only teach the Bible to White American students and that all other races and ethnicities will count as minus one.

Jesus told his disciples to obey God absolutely.
Samuel Lee told his disciples to obey him absolutely.

Jesus put mud from spit in a man’s eyes to heal his blindness.
Samuel Lee beat men with sticks.

Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for imposing human laws on people. Samuel Lee imposed human laws such as absolutely attending daily meetings and testimony sharing that is not required in scripture.

Jesus said to bring the little children to me.
Samuel Lee said the women should get an abortion because they could not for little children and serve UBF mission.

Jesus said God hates divorce and what God has united, men should not separate.
Samuel Lee said that his disciples should get divorces because the spouse no longer want to serve in UBF.

In Christ,

PECAS
