You all know I tend to go overboard with my opinions and my emotions, so this time I'll try to keep my cool.
As far as waterboarding is concerned. I believe we, the US of A, signed something called "the Geneva Convention Laws" (or something similar titled, I don't know the exact name of the Laws) after WWII, pledging to the world and to ourselves that we would Never resort to torture people to get information.
But, there was a change of laws during the first few years of this new millenium in our country, which made the Geneva Convention "quaint" and outdated and okayed the use of torture, especially waterboarding, to be considered NON Torture and legal in this country.
From what I've heard and read, the information that an attack was to be made in the state of California was discovered BEFORE waterboarding was used on any person. Thus, the need to waterboard Anyone is questionable. The person who interrogated the prisoner got the information by being smart, clever, and did it by just talking--no need to hurt anyone or threaten any kind of harm.
I've heard that the Main reason waterboarding was being used was to try to make 'certain people' confess that Iraq had something to do with September 11, 2001 attacks. This has been proven time and time again to be False, but this seems to be the justification and the reason used for 'legalizing' waterboarding.
If a person or persons are going to kill people, they will try to do it, no matter if they get stopped in time or if they follow through with their killing. You can Make people talk, but you can't guarantee what they tell you is the TRUTH. You may Think you have the TRUTH, but you're never really sure until AFTER the deed is done, or is stopped.
I would rather caution on the side of NO TORTURE. If this is wrong, then I will have to face my own demons when the time comes. But I will say that I doubt there is ANY proof that an attack on our country was stopped by the use of waterboarding or that there is any kind of Proof that Iraq was in on 9/11 attacks. We need to have ALL documents de-classified, not just certain pages, like one former member of the last administration wants to do. This is not fair and it's not right. Either de-classify the whole document or just forget it. The Attorney General MUST have a Special Prosecutor investigate this and determine if there is just cause to start War Crimes hearings, which I believe is the Right thing to do.
