In reply to: Shelly 's message, "starting 6 yr. old on weekly enemas" on Saturday, August 17, 2024, 08:10: pm

My mom, aka "The Enema Queen", began giving my older sister and I enemas at a very young age. My older sister told me that I was difficult to potty train and mom would use enemas as an aspect of triggering a BM. I fought the enemas for several years.

As I got older (6) I began experimenting with the nozzle and then self administration. In doing this, I was able to answer mom truthfully when she or the pediatrician asked if I was having BM's as expected. If I ever complained of a tummy ache or stayed home from school or church claiming I was sick, I was sure to get a date with my mom "The Enema Queen" and her intimidating red enema bag/fountain syringe.

While I didn't get enemas on a "weekly" schedule, I did get them quite often. The soapy ones were when I teased my sister about her enemas. She tattled on me whenever she thought I needed an enema from mom or grandma. If efforts to give her an enema were undertaken, it wasn't unusual for me to get one also.

Thank goodness I discovered the positive aspects and have been able to enjoy an enema for many decades now.

There's nothing that says a person has to poop every day. Every person's bowel habits is different.

Shelly is getting the right results - in terms of what goes in the top and what comes out the bottom - so she has every reason to plough ahead, using any force/any punishments necessary to give her boy the dirt-pipe-flushing he needs. Butt of course I'm pessimistic - I have to say be prepared for the possibility that your son may never learn to accept the treatment, and his excremental-output may never lastingly improve. I never thought I'd still be flushing out my (sort-of)-fully-grown daughter let alone my teenaged second-cousin.

Btw: Tim, you need to educate yourself - colorectal autointoxication is a real danger, and infrequent doohs are never ok

Several others appear to have given you some good advice and encouragement. It wasn't until a bit later in life, that Ireally began to enjoy enemas and colon cleansing. Mom and grandma were a bit rough as I got enemas as a kid. They did their job with support of my pediatrician and his nurse.

I began to self-administer at age 6. While it was only on occasion, by the time I was 9, I had become pretty good at it. Mom a d grandma seemed to accept this, except when the doctor ordered enemas or upon getting prepped for surgery or discharge from the hospital.

Hopefully, he will become more accepting and cooperative. Enemas are always better when given in a nurturing fashion. That is also a given between adults!

You're doing the right thing with your daughter, Sue. It's comforting to know that in some families, enemas and suppositories are given to full grown daughters and sons when needed.
