Eric, thanks for being with us throughout this basketball year. What a great ride to State. Man I felt you all the way through, even your sign during the Brown County Game with 38 seconds left on the clock. I know you had nothing to do with the broken leg, but it was reassuring to know you was watching over us to say, settle down and everything will be okay. You had the best seat in town, but we still with you were here physically in our stands. Thanks for any help along the way. It was the best, just like you!

Eric,
This year it would have been awesome to see you runnin' over everyone the raiders played this year. It would have been sweet to see you run through Bishop Mac like a bat out of hell and show that Humphrey kid who you were. But as it is you were doing that same thing in a better place. You always brought a smile to my face. Even when you didn't know someone who said hi you just smiled and waved back. You were truly great. You left each and every person you knew with a happiness they can't explain. Whenever i hear your name i just smile. We miss you so much. I cant wait to see you there. I will always remember you as Superman.
We miss you always and forever #38

The 1st football game of the season is tonight and I wouldn't miss it for anything. I can't help but look forward to it with very mixed emotions though. I can't go to a game and not think of Eric, but I also feel his spirit there very strongly. He is definitely there. Good luck to the Raiders at the beginning of another season. Also, watch closely for #37, he's a contender!

As another football season rolls around, my thoughts wonder back to Eric. I don't think I've watched a group of kids either playing or practicing football without thinking of Eric. It sure was a part of his spirit. Good luck Raiders as you live out Eric's spirit once more.

My sister showed me this site a couple of weeks ago. I just wanted to tell Eric that i will never ever forget him.
I just met him one night. It was the new years eve before his death. My cousins and i were at a party and we were just talking and then all a sudden i look up, and i see this guy walking down the stairs. I think my jaw actually dropped. He was a freshman and i was in 7th grade at the time. A few minutes later he came over to me and shook my hand and said " Hey my name is Eric, what's your name?" I think i completly forgot my name right then and there! Eric left a deep impression on me. When i left that night, he said "bye karen" i was so shocked and happy that he remembered my name. I will never forget that night. And i wish so bad that i could've had a chance to thank Eric for being a Superman to so many people, including me:) I will never forget you eric, and I will hold the memory of you in my heart forever.

Everyday I remember Eric. The memories always make me smile. I'm so proud how each of you have gone on with your lives. That is exactly what Eric would have wanted. His spirit is still strolling down the hallways with those bow-legs. His infectous smile and devilish pranks. As long as his memories live, he will too. There is not a doubt in my mind that he is watching us; as angels always do.

You were always there,
helping and caring everywhere.
There wasn't any rhyme or reason
you were always pleasin'.
Your smiles
could stretch soo many miles.
On the football field you would fly
you made people feel like they could touch the sky.
You were soo very smart
You had such a big heart
you were always there to pick people up and show them to the top!
to help one in need you would have ran
no wonder why you were called Superman!

everytime seein u in the halls between u and chuck makin fun of me for being on crutchs! but u always made me smile!and it was an excuse for u to be late for class! u were one heck of a person! i love you and miss you! i know ill see u in heaven! keep watchin over all of us and teachin us that u are always there and to live more like u!

I didnt know Eric all that well. I really do regret not knowing him better though. i rememeber one night i was at a friends and him and his cousin called us up to talk. it was the first time ever talking to him. I was actually planning on meeting up with him later! He just seemed like such a great person and I wish i would have gotten to personally meet him so bad. someday i probably will along with the others that loved him so much.

If we could build a stairway and
memories were a lane,
We would walk right up to heaven
and bring you home again,
No farewell words were spoken, no
time to say goodbye,
Except a wink of the eye,
You were gone before we knew it
and only God knows why,
Our hearts still ache in sadmess
and out tears still flow,
What it meant to loose you no one
can ever know,
But we know just what you
meant by saying "I will,
Tell you so, what will happen after
I go",
Since you will never be forgotten
we pledge to you today,
A hallowed place within our hearts
is where you will be,
Always stay and that can never be
taken away.
Love ya,
Eric "SUPERMAN" Weiman

Having never met Eric, I can't speak of the past that many of you were able to share with him. But seeing the inspiration that he has continued to be to all of the young people that crossed his path is truly heartwarming. Rarely in life do we have the opportunity to experience someones friendship the way so many of you did with Eric. Keep him close to your heart and talk to him when you feel down. He remains the best friend God intended him to be for each of you.

About a week after New Years Eve a very close friend of mine found this poem in a Chicken Soup book. I think it's perfect for Eric so i decided to share it with all of you just like my friend shared it with me.

"His role model was Superman, how he loved him too!
Noone could've known what this boy would do.
He always brought joy into so many lives,
Why? Oh why, did he have to die.

They all hugged and said not to be scared,
They all told stories and memories that they all had once shared.
He is an angel now, in a much better place,
And i doubt that anybody could forget his smiling face.

Now he is home, and at peace once more,
How i wish that i could come once again to his door.
I will not forget him, i don't think i ever can,
he was a real life hero...our great Superman."

Thanks for all the memories Eric!!! I'll never forget them!
Keep looking out for us! Love ya 'big guy'!

#38 still with us...

It is amazing how many people Eric touched in such a short amount of time. There is not a day that passes that we don't think about him and to make it bearable we only concentrate on the good times. Eric with his corny jokes that would make Daniel and Nicholas laugh so hard they'd fall of their chairs. Erics ability to have the best one-line comebacks when I'd make a remark. Eric would always comment on how Michael always had a girlfriend and knew how to talk to girls so easy and Eric never could. We'd kid him alot about that and he'd just laugh. You know you have alot of great character when you can laugh at yourself. We are so impressed at the amount of flowers on your grave for Memorial Day. Your memories will never be forgotten nor will our love for you! Until we meet in heaven to continue our great times, know you are always in our hearts with admiration and all our love.

Looking through all the things that people have written brings back so many wonderful memories. I will always remember 6th hour Spanish freshmen year when we always got in trouble for talking and the good times the JV cheerleaders had last summer talking to Weiman during weighlifting. He could always make us laugh even if it was 7 in the morning on a hot summer day. We love you Eric and can't wait till we can see you again!

Have you ever lost someone that was important to you?
Wondering how you would ever get through.
You cry, you smile, and then you might laugh.
You kneel down and pray on his behalf.
You never got the chance to say goodbye.
Sitting there thinking and wondering why.
Everyone is crying and you don’t know what to do.
Now school is so hard to get through.
You walk down the hall and think of that smile.
He’s looking down on you all the while.
Up in heaven is where he now lives.
Watching over you is what he gives.
Now he’s up there looking down.
He always will have a smile never a frown.
All you have is the pictures and memories of him
Until the time you will see him again.

i miss you weiman.

SUPERMAN

Suddenly the days seem to pass by slowly
and as the weeks begin to slide by,
you may begin to wonder why God choose Superman
to be the one to die.

Understand now that he is in a better place
safe from anymore harm,
even though you wish you could see
just one more time, a football in his arm.

Pride is what he always seemed to have
whe he put his heart into the game,
praying for what could be a win
and perhaps even gaining a little more fame.

Everyone is trying so hard to hold on so tight
not ever wanting to let go,
with a question in their mind,
"How can this be so?"

Remembering all the memories you can
is a good thing to concentrate on now,
only wishing he could of made more
some way, some how?

Many visions of the future begin to shine
through the clouds and the sun's bright light,
and of course we know he is there with us,
just only out of sight.

And don't worry too much
because eventually one day,
we will all get to see him
when God takes us all his way.

Now looking back is tough,
recalling his tragic death,
you can only help but wonder, what Superman
was thinking, when he took his last breath.

This poem was written by me in memory of Eric. He was a wonderful person and touched so many lives.

We’ll always love you, 38

Friends forever, never to part,
Forever and always, you’ll be in my heart.
That day you left us, it seemed so unreal,
We held one another, in vain attempts to heal.
We wanted you there, to once more hold us tight,
It was all so sudden, it didn’t seem right.
We sat in the chapel, and told of your life,
The pain we felt, cut through like a knife.
God gave you to us, then took you away,
But our lives will go on... day by day.
Poems and letters and bracelets were made,
To make sure, that in us you stayed.
We think of you often, we know you’re here,
You look down and hold us, through all of our tears.

Eric,
Sometimes i just sit and think about everything that we went through together. A couple of weeks ago those memories made me want to cry. Now when I think about those same memories they bring a smile to my face. We should all feel very blessed that we got to have those experieces with you. Even though you are not here with us physically i see signs everyday that you are still very close, and those little signs help out alot!
You are now looking down on us being our gardian angel, and I like it that way. It makes me feel so safe knowing that you are always there.
We love you Superman!

Well Eric...it's been just over 4 months and not a day goes by without your name being mentioned. I walk by your locker every day on my way to 5th hour, and I smile...remembering your smile. You could light up the hallways. And that's not an easy thing to do!
We had our class retreats this past Friday and something hit me. We were in our groups, asking questions. One of the questions was..."How do you want people to remember you after you die?" Only one thing came into my mind...I want to be like Eric. I don't want to be forgotten, or remembered for the bad things I've done. I want people to miss me, and I want to know that I've made a difference in my classmates', schoolmates', and my family's lives.
Even though I didn't know you as well as others, and even though you were younger than me...you are my role model. I agree w/ Lori and Nici Cornwell...forget be like Mike. I want to be like Eric Weiman.
Your memory lives forever in QND and in each of our hearts. Thank you for being you. And thank you to Kelly and Larry for sharing Eric with all of us.

There is not a day that goes by that I don't think about Eric and always with a smile on my face. Every night I read your letters. If not on this wonderful website, I read your letters given to me at the memorial. I totally believe this quote, "Your loved one dies only when everyone has forgotten him." I know in my heart this will never happen because Eric is a part of all of you. He will never be forgotten. You all are the best gift God has given our family and I thank him for that! Bless you and have fun!!! Love Mom

Eric,
I can remember the first time I ever saw you. We were in 8th grade and we were at a basketball game. I was sitting with Nici and you were at the top of the bleachers. It was a really boring game and I was looking around in the stands for people that I knew that I could talk to. I looked up and I saw you. My first reaction was "Holy crap, who is that?" Nici told me all about you. How you and her had been friends since you were little. She knew everything about you and I found myself wanting to know you too. So we started talking, and finally after a month of two of getting to know each other, you asked me out. I will never forget the feeling I had when I head those words. And of course I said yes. I remember going to the pool with you, basketball games, watching you play baseball, and going to movies and parties. I'll never forget that day in spanish when I looked at you then Katherine looked at me. Miss Emerick saw us and yelled at us for about 5 minutes becuase of the "line of communication" we had going. I can't believe I kept a straight face through it all. Good thing she didn't look at you or Katherine, or she would have seen how hard you guys were laughing. I could hear you all the way across the room. I remember all the notes we passed in there and I still have all of them. I read them all the time. Every night I sleep with the huge cow you gave me and have the card you gave me with it sitting on my dresser. I read it anytime I start to feel myself crying again. I remember everything that we went through and remember that I'll see you again someday. I'll never forget all our good times, and I'll try to forget the bad. I'll always miss you and I'll love you forever.

Thank you for always being there for me even after all we went through. I have faith that I will see you again someday.
Until Then, I love you.
Ashes

I know things are settling down but no one will ever get over you. Never! Somewhere, someone will say remember him and everyone will remember your smile and your life. I think your life has been more meaningfull than most of us could do with a thousand years. I know everyone still hurts just as bad to think of you. We all have our ways of making ourselves feel better, but the truth is, it still hurts. I don't think a day goes by where 100 people don't think about you! There is always someone thinking about you. If you were still here we would feel better, but you have it so much better up there! I have to say this though, God must haved loved you a whole lot to love you more than we did. People say this was supposed to happen, but according to me... it shouldn't have.

So, with love,

Weiman,
I'll never forget your first high school football game. It was just a scrimage but Sarah made me go, because of you. To tell you the truth, I didn't even get what she was talking about when she raved about how good looking you were, not until I saw you on that field. There had to have been about 20 freshmen girls watching that game, mostly all because of you! They called your number, 38 the one we've all come to know so well, you ran out there and stood looking into the stands, you shot the hugest smile up at all of us, I looked at Sarah and said, oh my god, you're right he's really hot! In that first year and half, we all had together of high school I got to know, not as well as I want now, but I knew you were everybody's role model and friend. You were always there to make things fun and never did I ever hear anyone say anything remotely bad about you. You were everyone's hero, no matter how good of friends you were to them. That was the best part of your personality, everyone was welcome. No matter who they were, you took your hand out of your jean pocket and stuck out your hand and gave them that smile. I bought a belt buckle right before the homecoming game, at the parade the night before I couldn't wait to show you. It was just the way you were, you made everyone want to be near you, like you, be your friend, and you made it easy to do. This couldn't have happened to a better person, but I guess maybe that makes sense. Maybe God was running low on angels, maybe his football team needed a star. We'll never know why this happened, but we'll always have our memories and they'll never die. I wish we could have had more times together, sorry for putting tooth paste on your face at meckes's house! Miss you and love you Cowboy. #38, Wei, Superman, forever and always!

just as ya think it might be gettin back to normal, or what would be normal after suck a horrible thing, something strikes you in the face to make you remember it all and the hardships with out you. i wasnt the closest friend to you but you were my friend. i was just starting to do lots of stuff with you lately. then i got grounded, hah, and then it was all over...i never got to say goodbye or got to do antying with you forever!
i hate not having you here. people just dont seem the same anymore. nobody seems to be as happy as they were. you just brought things to our lived that cant be replaced. everybody misses you and will always miss you.

hah you was suppose to be on my gus macker team this year! i tried so hard last year to get you on it but you already had obligations with another team. there was no budging you. and then this year we had it all fiquered out. what a blast we would have had. just comes to show ya how living each day to your fullest matters. "nobody has promised tomorrow" i once heard on a tv show. i love that quote.

well when we meet again man we will be on that macker team ah

ill stay down here for and just try to help everybody through the rough times. you know deep inside nobody can fully get over all of this. sometimes ppl just dont show there emotions but deep down they are crying for help. i try to be there for whoever needs somebody to talk to or just wants somebody to hang out with and have a good time. i just wish you was here, would be alot easier...

everybody wishes they were you! you were the best!

Wow where to start i truely don't know because i didn't know Weiman all that much. we talked but i wasn't one of his closest freinds. he was a great guy and loved everyone and there was never a day that went by that he didn't have a smile on his face that could make a room melt. he was always so happy and when someone was down he was right there to put them back up and help them continue the day. theres is a lot more that can be said, but most of it covered when i say that #38 was one of the greatest guys alive and SUPERMAN will live forever in everyone. Thanks so much Weiman for helping everyone live better.

Hey everyone. I just peeked in to see how this site was doing. It appears that not to many people have said anything for a while, which i guess could be a good thing, but also a bad one. Well if any of you have any doubts about Eric still being with us, check out this. Before our regional game friday night, i stopped by his grave on the way to school to ask him for some help. Well as many of you know, we won the regional, and i hit 6 free throws to help us ot that victory. That may not seem like to much, but i had made 2 of my last 10 free throws of the year, and before each shot i asked him for that help. He is there, and he is enjoying being our guardian angel.

well cowboy it is hard to believe that you are gone. you were one of the most unbelieveable people i have ever met and will ever meet. I still remember me you and adam working out on the farm those were some great times and the cow we all came to love NORMAN. Words can't really say what you mean to me and the rest of us. I always hoped that deep down you and my sister would date. I know one day when God calls my name that you will be there to greet me in heaven and i know that you are watching down on all of us and probably similing the "weiman smile" as my mom calls it
thank you soo much for all the memories and the times we shared
love you superman

I may never bear the burden that that your family has beared but I promise that the memory of your death will always be in my heart. My family will always have its struggles as will yours, from this undescribable accident but I feel it is only important to note that you have the strongest family who so often has displayed so much love for not only you but all the people that loved you. I think that your parents are probably the strongest and most noble people I know. They never doubted God's presence and that is truly something to be hopeful about in a rough situation. I know that you are watching over them and all those who will forever remember you. It is so amazing to me to see how much you touched people in their lives. I may not have known you, but my brother did. He thought the world of you and he also will never forget how many lives you have touched. You made the world a better place and for that the only real prayer I can say is THANK YOU. THANK YOU For you, for your parents, and for all those who were blessed to know you.

What we as a family and friend need to learn from the loss of Eric is that it was not in vain. In life there are no second chances. Eric never needed any. He took care of the life God gave him - mind, body, and soul. He lived his commandments: Love one another as I have loved you and love your neighbor as yourself. He taught us the importance of liking ourselves, and loving our family, God, & others. He didn't need a second chance - He got it right!

Eric, the son I never had but, I always dreaned about.

A friend, a good friend, a reason to teach.

On your last day at St. Dominic's you wrote to me how I was such a big influence on your life. No Eric, it was you that influenced my life.

You wrote how I believed in you, and that I told you to reach for your goals that you have set for yourself, no Eric you believed in me and my goals.

You wrote that I knew you would always make the right choices in your life, yes Eric I knew you would always make the rights choices in your life.

You wrote that I respected you and that made it easy for you to respect me. How could anyone not respect you Eric.

Never in my lifetime can I accomplish what you did in your 16 short years - but I, like everyone else will keep trying.

Eric I would not trade the last 4 years that I had with you for all the money in the world.

Thank you - for being you.

Thank you Larry, Kelly, Michael, Nick, and Daniel, for sharing Eric with me and with all of us.

I would like to thank the QND family for all that you have done for my family to help make Eric's service special. You will always be special to us and we will not forget what you have done to help us thru this time.
When we first started to deal with the reality of what had happened a verse from the Bible came to mind. It was Romans 8 verse 28 that reads ALL THINGS WORK TOGETHER FOR GOOD TO THOSE WHO LOVE THE LORD.Eric loved the Lord. Our family loves the Lord. So what do we do to bring good from what has happened to Eric? We live life as Eric would have wanted us to do. Always DO THE RIGHT THING!! Be Jesus to other people that need him. Live a good life for tomorrow is promised to no-one. And above all smile and be happy with what you have and who you are for life is to short to waste being sad.
Eric you were special to me. Thanks for the touchdown in Palmyra. Thanks for the hay help. Thanks for the last sun set over that new fence that you and Adam helped build.
Cowboy-up Eric and I'll see you in the back pasture when I get there.

Eric was the type of kid who could say so much with just a grin. He was in my 7th hour Algebra class last year and always lightened things up. Whenever I would get frustrated over something he would remind to lighten up and not sweat the little things. He sometimes said something and other times he would just crack a little smile. Last night channel ten had their student/athlete of the week and it struck me that Eric would definitely be a top contender. It is amazing how many lives he touched in his short life. It took me a while to write this because I wasn't sure how to express the loss I felt. I will always remember Eric's smile and the grin he had on the sidelines after he had just run over two or three defenders. He was a tough player on the field, but a true gentleman off the field. So long Eric, we all miss you but we know you are in a better place.

I guess through all of this I am amazed at the strength Kelly has had. Her being able to get up and go back to work last Monday just made me look up to her. I think that if she can get up and head back to work and get her life as close to normal again, then all of us should be able to. Of course life will never be back to normal ever again for us. But through my tears my dad told me this: 'we have to think ,what would Eric do?' He would obviously keep on smiling and having fun.
We just have to carry on as best we can and be there for each other. I find that the hardest thing to do is move on though. I can't do a thing without thinking of Eric.
When i do chores at night i walk into our calf shed and think of the work Eric did on it some weekends. Then I go down to the barn and see it full of square bales which he helped bale and put up in that barn during the summer.
How can I ever forget playing football with him and all my other cousins at birthday parties.
And how can I EVER forget my reaction to him scoring that 90-yard touchdown at Palmyra!!

I think Eric has made a HUGE impact on my life and has changed me in ways I can never explain. I miss you more than ever Eric and I can't wait to join you in Heaven.
Superman #38 forever in my heart. Love you Wheels!

Aaron,

I too know what you mean about seeing Eric all over your farm. On the evening of Dec. 31st, I went up into that loft to throw down some bales. I ended up sitting there in the loft for some time. I found myself wondering how many of those bales he stacked. I felt like I could almost see him stacking the bales right in front of me.

I have walked the loft many times since Dec. 31 and continually find myself thinking about Eric. Lately, however, I have been recalling the times I saw Eric up in that loft pitching hay with all you Weiman and Wellman boys. I smile every time I see you guys up there throwing around the bales. It always reminds me of the times I stacked hay in that very loft with my own brothers, your brother David, and your dad. There is no harder work than stacking hay in that hot loft, but few things are as rewarding as finishing that hard chore. Only those who have pitched hay on a hot summer day in a tin-roofed barn can appreciate the sense of accomplishment one has after stacking hay all day. These are special memories you and your cousins share. Eric will be in that loft every time you pitch hay. This thought doesn’t sadden me. It makes me smile. Hopefully, this summer you will feel the same way.

Eric Weiman was one of the best people that i ever met. at every basketball game that i went to, i would always say hi to him even though we didnt really know eachother. he'd always reply with a HOWDY and that great smile that could cheer you up no matter how down you were about something else. This has been a hard experience for all of us to deal with. But, i always remember that everything will be ok in the end. if its not ok, then its not the end yet. Superman,
I first met you during our freshman year at QND. I didn't know many people then, and I didn't really know you all that well either (I wish I did). But I'll always remember that smile you'd give me or that little tip of that cowboy hat (which looked great on you!) whether it was in the halls or when I'd see you, Chuck, and a lot of your other good friends walking out of Shopko or some other store. You always made my day better when you did that and you made me feel like I was a somebody, even though I used to feel like I didn't really matter. Another thing I'll NEVER forget is when you sang "Sweet Home Alabama" at one of the dances QND had last year. It was awesome!
The memories you gave everyone will always be in our hearts and minds! It's like they say in that song by Faith Hill, "I'll keep a part of you with me, and every where I am there you'll be." Everyone loves and misses you very much! We all love you Cowboy!

Eric, i dint really know you all that well, i mean, we had talked before and you were a distant cousin, yet i still felt that when i talked to you that we had known each other for a long time. Everything about you was something that we could all smile about. i remember once asking you what kind of music you liked and you told me that you were really into Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, they rule, i love them, and i was so happy to finaly hear that some one else liked them, and it was so cool to know that we shared something for the same music, that other people didnt really care about. you were just a great gift to the earth. I cut out a picture of you and taped it to my guitar, now i look at it when i play and it reminds me that anything is possible, you taught me that eric, and now i dont think i have ever been more determined to live and enjoy life and make something of it, i look at your picture when i play and its cool b/c everytime i do, i dont seem to mess up, i hope u have something to do with that. Eric life isnt going to be the same with out you and we all wish that we could have you back, but there will be that day and when it comes its going to be like a little kid in a candy store, or in your case, the winning touch down at the super bowl, but it will come, and until then we will wait.
so i will see ya around man, thank you for everything you gave us.

Weiman was just a great person and will truly never be forgotten. His warmth and compassion were shown through his actions and his great smile. He did so many great things and had a huge impact on his family, friends, and even people that didn't really know him. He made me feel welcome coming to Notre Dame last year and we always had a great time. Walking to Millers last year after going to movies, hanging out in weight room during the summer, when we were supposed to be working out, and seeing him dressed in his cowboy hat and boots. I will never be able to forget the day I walked into school last year and he decided to call me Gerva, and then this past summer we wrote in on the wall in the weight room. I know he is looking down on all of us. I can't wait until we can meet again! luv ya weiman!

I didn't know Eric as well as others did, but when I saw him in the halls, he was always smiling and joking with his friends. He was a great football player. I first met him at a dance when I was only in seventh grade. He brings a whole new meaning to the name Superman.
Now, whenever I hear that name, I will not think of the cartoon I watched when I was a child. No, I'll think of him. With his cowboy hat, smiling. Sure, the cartoon and TV show superman had the abilities to fly faster than a speeding bullet and leap the tallest buildings in a single bound, but Eric accomplished so much more! He was a friend to many, could fly on the field, and had the phenomenal ability to always make people smile.
Just think of it this way...Although we had to lose him in his bodily form, we also gained an angel. Watching over us every day and even from up above....still smiling.
We will miss you Superman!!

There are so many things I could say about Weiman. He was the greatest friend anyone could ever ask for, always there to listen and make you laugh. He could make ANY class fun! I'll always remember the times him, ashley vc, and I would always get in trouble in class for talking. We had so much fun. I'll never forget him and I can't wait until the day when I can see him again!

I knew Eric from being a friend of Nici Cornwell. On our golf trips Nici always talked about Eric and how great of a friend he was to her. One day when I was talking to her he walked up hugged her. I could tell how close he was to her.
Everytime I saw him he had that huge smile on his face and instead of saying Hi or What's up, he would say Howdy. That's what really cracked me up about him. He was a good kid and I was glad that I got to know him. Thanks superman for everything that you did. If anybody was ever down your smile always cheered them up!!! Luv yeah babe!!!!!

Losing a friend is difficult. Losing a family member is devastating. It cannot be explained away. Everybody heals in his or her own time and in their own way.

The students at Notre Dame have never shown more openness, honesty, or class. The students and faculty united as one. It was inspiring. I feel lucky to be a part of such a devoted group of people.

Eric IS truly loved in this community.

I loved seeing that big cheese of his through his football helmut and in the halls at school. He always made me smile. It is not very ofen that a 16 year old person can have as much impact on so many people but Eric truely is a superman!! Always remember he is here with all of us.

Eric Weiman would often brighten the day of those in my last period class as well as myself. Most people look forward to last period because it means the school day is over; however, it meant that many of us could share in the smiling and humor of Eric. He was a great help when the class was "rowdy" announcing to everyone to "Shudder Down!" and a quick silence followed as everyone grinned beause he was grinning back at them. He was the same gentle, calming, positive spirit inside and outside the classroom. He truly impacted the peers in his class and the faculty as well. He will leave a void in the halls and classrooms of QND(physically) but his love of life and spirit will remain forever.

Weiman... I sat here for a good while trying to think what I could write to do justice to the kind of person you were. The truth is, I don't think I have enough room. This page holds the thoughts, memories, and feelings of people that meant the world to you, and lately I've come to realize mean the world to me too. I can't remember when I met you, or where, or even how... but what sticks in my mind when I remember you is how you treated me. Freshman year I walk in knowing next to no one... and you could have just easily said hi and walked away.. but you made it a point to stop, shake my hand, and make me feel like I really belonged. I always held you in the highest respect because thats exactly what I got from you. And now I am forced to see you go, and I sit here with this pain deep in the pit of my stomach and I wonder why. Am I crying because I've lost a friend, or am I crying because I know this world has lost of those few people made life easier for all of us.. or both. I love you bro, I know you're looking down on all of us now, I just hope I can make you proud.

Weiman, man i dont know where to start. You know its been really hard this last week w/o you, but thanks to you, everyone has gotten closer. I wish it wouldn't have to have been you but we all know you are in a better place. You've been one of my best friends since we've been in high school. I can still remember standing by your locker every morning before school, finishing the homework that we never did and all the nights we spend at millers house and whitey's. I remember all the nights we were out, tlaking bout girls, and esp. just one girl you seemed to not be able to live w/o her. And you guys were with each other till the end. You would never quit until you got what you really wanted. You were always there for anyone and especially me. The night at your house when you, mills, wood, tstrip and me almost set your house on fire and the ring of fire they made. And how you got me started listening to country music, when i hated it when i first began to be friends. I have so many memories with you, ill never forget any of them. Thanks for everything

Words can't even begin to express how much you mean to me. You were alwasy there for me no matter what and no matter how much i would complain about things you would always just laugh at me and then try to make everything ok. We had so many good times and I will never forget them. I know that you are in a better place now and you are watching over me and everyone else and looking down at us and smiling your wonderful smile. Not a moment goes by that i dont think of you and how great you were. No matter where we were at or what we were doing we alwasy had a blast. And I will never forget the time that we danced in your living room, that memory will stay with me forever.
I love you and i am going to miss you so incredibly much but i know that one day i will be able to see your smiling face again. I know that you will alwasy be taking care of me.
The #38 will live on forever in everybody's hearts espically mine.

Hey weiman
what can i say. you were one of my closest friends. we had so many good times. The cooler, that was great! Riding to school with you and chuck. the time when you and chuck put a burning log at the end of my driveway and lied to my mom about it. riding to school together for your early weightlifting and my cheerleading practice during the summer. Me having to sit on the middle hump thing so we could all squeeze in it. Looking out my window and seeing you and chuck on horses with your cowboy hats on. Church class was always great when me you and miller were partners. back at st. Dominic's when we went bowling and me, you, miller, and brwon were on a bowling team. haha those were the days

this past week has been so hard with out you. I miss you so much. you have touched so many peoples lives by your personality and that smile. your smile was great. it could make a person melt. looking at you always laughing and smiling and having a good time would make my day better. i am so glad that i got to know you and become so close. I miss you so much.

Weiman,
where do i begin, we have been best friends for about 5 years. i remember meeting you the 1st time at the KC barbeque. it was weird, but i knew the first time i saw ya you would be one great friend. we went to school together and did everything together. i will always remember the very special times we had together, that i wish did not have to end now. me you and wood always walking everywhere, no matter what the weather was we would always walk anywhere.now you can walk in heaven and among us all.
you were always a good friend. i never do remember a bad time. you have brought the best out of me, and i am very thankful for that. you showed me how to have fun doing absolutely nothing, which we did quite a bit. we had many times goin out and having fun. we did many crazy things which will always be in my memories.
your football career was short lived, but was also very succesful. you said when you were a freeshman that you were going to start next year. sure enough you proved to us all as you started tailback for most of the season. you had motivation that veryone wishes they could have. no matter what the situation was you would always give it a shot.
thanks for everything you have done for me over the past couple of years. it is very hard for me to lose you. i loved how you made everything look easy. i love you eric and will evetually meet up with you again, and we can hang out in heaven just like the good old days.
love ya bud!

Eric was one of the nicest people I have ever had the priviledge of teaching. His smile will always warm my heart. When I think of him and that will be often, I will always picture his mischevious grin. I will miss him in class and in the hallways, but he will live on in my heart forever. I am amazed that a 16 year old could have such an enormous impact on so many lives, that is just further testimony to the type of person he was. We must all try to follow his example of treating everyone like they are special.

Eric was the nicest and funnest person to be around. I grew up knowing him. My parents and his parents were friends all the way back in grade school and all ended up getting married to each other. So, I grew up with him all my life. We did so many things together. Our family's would always spend the Super Bowl together, have New Year's together, go camping, and take vacations. I always idolized Eric! I always felt so comfortable around him. When our family's would go camping together or on vacation I wouldn't worry about anything except having fun because I knew he didn't care. I would dress up in big, old clothes and boots and we'd go hiking or play in the woods and the creek. I have so many memories of him and the things we did I coudln't even begin to tell them all. We had so much fun together and he always looked out for me. He always told me when I did something that he didn't really like and always tried to protect me. He was like a big brother to me. This has been the hardest thing ever for me to go through. I miss him so much and I don't know what it's going to be like to not have him around at school, or on our vacations, at new years, or the super bowl. I'll just have to realize that he's always gonna be there with me during all those times just not how I was used to him being there. I don't see how anyone who doesn't believe in God and Heaven could ever go through something like this. THe only thing that has been able to comfort me in anyway is the thought of him being in Heaven with God and being able to see him again soon and knowing that he is still always with me and watching over me. I loved him so much and I always will. I'll never forget him and now more than ever my biggest goal is to get to Heaven so I can again be with him. I'll never forget you Superman! Thanks for everything you have done for me! I love you with all my heart and I can't wait to see you again soon! Keep on smiling my superman! I'll see you again soon! Thanks for watching over me and carrying me! Love you, Nici

Being a fairly new member of the QND family, I only had the privilege of knowing Eric for a short time, but in that time I saw hime be Jesus for so many people here. He had that deep down joy that comes from knowing who you belong to and where you are going. That joy was contagious and shown so vividly in the video on Saturday. Those are the images of Weiman I will carry-the joy for life and the ability to be comfortable with who you are. Both are great lessons for all of us to learn. Thanks, Eric. You will always be an "angel among us".

Being a cousin of Eric's, I'll miss him very much and always remember him. It was always fun to go over to their house and watch a movie with Eric or to go outside and play in the snow with him and his brothers. The other day I went out in the snow with his brother, Michael, and he mentioned how different and quiet it's going to be without his brother. I know what he means. Today as I was walking in the halls I missed seeing Eric's smiling face like I had since the beginning of the school year. I have to say I am really going to miss that smiling face of his.

Not to forget - a whole group of heroes, who go the extra mile each day, but especially so in times of difficulty such as the death of Eric Weiman last week - the administration, faculty and staff of Quincy Notre Dame! I heard stories of how Mr. Heilmann and Mr. Connell were heroes in doing all that they could for Eric's family. The entire group at QND is dedicated to helping the students and their families. What great role models and examples for young people to see!

After September 11, 2001, we learned a lot about heroes in our country. It is rewarding to see the many heroes who have appeared since Eric Weiman's death. To me, a hero is someone who steps forward and helps out without any thought of recognition. I don't begin to know all the wonderful and thoughtful things that people have done, but I can name some of the ones that I have observed.

My sister, Teresa Weiman, her husband, Gary Weiman, and their family have been by the side of Eric's family ever since they received word of his death. They, along with the other family members and friends, have quietly helped do the many things that needed to be done.

He probably won't like me saying this, because he doesn't like recognition, but my son, Mr. Strieker, has milked the cows on the Gary Weiman farm many times in the past week, so that Gary and his family would be free to help Larry and Kelly and their sons.

I know that many hands of QND students, parents, and supporters stayed late after the Friday basketball game to prepare the gym for Eric's funeral mass on Saturday morning. Many also pitched in immediately after the services to take down chairs and clean up the gym.

Mr. Dale Venvertloh must have spent hours reviewing videos to capture the footage of Eric that he put into the very personal video shown at his funeral. Many others are heroes and perhaps someone has other stories to share.

Over 20 years ago, our family was the recipient of countless good deeds and generosity by many people, and we have not forgotten that. I am sure that Eric's family will not forget either. Isn't it wonderful to be part of a community that has powerful and inspiring stories of our own heroes!! May God bless everyone.

I was holding the door for my friend who was on crutches and he came up and took the door and said to go ahead in reply I said I was waiting on my friend and he just looked back at her then me and said alright and gave me his big smile and went on to his class. Eric you will always be in my mind and everyone elses. I will miss you!

When I walked out of the gym on Saturday an amazing thing happened- It started snowing- Iknow that he is okay now and that he is still with us all- He will be in class with his friends too! We can't see him- but he is there.

In Eric we had a glimpse of the joy that awaits us in heaven. I know that when it is my turn, if he can get away from his duties as Guardian Angel, he will be there to greet me with that smile, helping me to make the transition to the complete joy that he already knows. I'll greet him as always, "Little Larry!"

I can not say I was lucky enough to be a really close friend with Eric, but even me just being a classmate of his I have been deeply touched by everything... Anyone who even remotely knew eric hasnt had a dry eye in the past week. No matter if it was a freshman who only saw him a few times in the halls or a football fan Eric touched them somehow... Isnt it amazing how we dont realize what we have until its gone? One thing I will take out of all of this is the memory of how Eric treated life, and treated other people. I have begun to tell my friends i love them everyday because as heilman said, we have to treat each day as it was our last to spend with our friends... So I love you everyone !! and I'll never forget how much of an impact Eric made on my life.

Eric's style was unique, like his smile! He always offered a helping hand to anyone that needed it, and never placed himself above anyone else. In class, his relaxed, easy-going manner made every class period enjoyable. He greeted everyone with a smile and a 'howdy', creating a wake of good feeling wherever he went. Eric will continue to live on at QND forever, because QND will love him forever!

Eric, gosh, words can't describe how awful I feel. My greatest memory of Eric is when I was at the mall,in Diamond Daves, with a friend, and Eric, Chuck, and Nathan walked in dressed as cowboys. I remember them walking up to the table and saying, "Howdy Ma'am." I laughed and saiy hey. gosh his smile made me melt inside, and the walk he had was perfect in every cowboy way. I know that he is in a better place and that he is watching over us, but Eric I want you to know that you are the nicest kid I have ever met, and i will never forget you.

I don't even know where to start. My cousin, Eric, was probably one of the greatest people I'll ever know. Most people probably saw him in a different way than me because we were in relation. I will never forget the last day I saw him. He was at my house on the farm (the Saturday before this all happened). We were actually hauling manure and I would pass him on my tractor and he would give me that smile and a wave. He had so much fun doing things around here. Can't imagine what we'll do when we need him for baling hay next summer. I'll miss him so much. But right now it's getting to the point which I look back and cry tears of joy for being so close to him. But I still have my moments like the rest of us where I don't know what I'm going to do. Next year I head to the halls of QND and I was so hoping to see him in those halls to say hi and sorta help me around and kinda look out for me since Adam is graduating.
I can't thank everyone enough for all they have done for all us Weimans this past week. It's been hard for all of us and I'm glad that everyone was there for Larry, Kelly and the boys. It means so much to them hearing all of your stories. Thanks again for everything!

And thank you Eric for all you have done! I will forever miss you. Each time I think of you I'll know you're up there somewhere thinking of me too. God bless you #38!

Steve, this is a great idea! So many of our students have a special memory of Eric and a story to share. It helps to ease the pain a little bit...and brings a smile as you read these messages. I am very proud of the compassion that our student body has and the respect and love they have shown Eric's family, as well as each other. The prayer service gave everyone a chance to heal a little bit, and we are grateful for our faith. We know that Eric is watching over us and will always be in our hearts.

i can honestly say i didn't know Eric that well. I knew that he always made me smile and laugh. I can just picture his "strut" that he always had. His hats, boots, and most of all his smile. Being with his friends they have always told me that he was the greatest guy they knew. and i wanted to meet him really bad. i dont relaly know why exactly i didn't go up and talk to him, but i knew i wanted to become friends with him. but thats all in the past now, and i know Eric is extremely happy where he is. So for now i'll just have to picture him wherever i go.....his big smile, and i'll just smile right back at him.
his personality is etched in my heart forever, and someday i will get my chance to meet him, and i can't wait.

Eric:where you are i hope you are happy, but know this superman, we all love you, and will never ever forget you.
you mean everything to us, and always will. i hope i will meet you someday.

love you!

The funeral liturgy this morning said it all. Eric was a gift to each of us and now God is asking us to keep that gift as he takes it away. QND is about caring, loving and forgiving. Eric got the message and shared it with everyone in grand style. I am filled with his message that says it all with a smile and sharing your true feelings so others can catch the same message. The main thing is to know the main thing and keep the main thing the main thing.
What a privilege to share in the life of someone who truly the main thing.

SuperMan,
Where do you even begin to describe such a great person like Eric. Eric would always put a smile on my face every morning this past summer when we lifted, no matter how tired I was or how we all felt, he was the one that made it enjoyable. He was one of the most friendliest persons to be associated with, which made him loved by thousands around the communtity. Eventhough you are gone now, one day we will all be joined together, and just the thought of that makes all of us smile.

I'll never forget the night he showed up at my house the night of the royalty dance, in his cowboy hat, superman tie, and huge football coat! I couldn't help but laugh. He just looked at me with that huge grin and said, "What? Let's do this!" I love ya, little Weiman. Thanks for everything. We'll cya later.

I will always remember that Eric did things the "RIGHT" way. He always busted his butt on the football field. I loved his attitude and work ethic. Midway through this past football season, Eric faced a little adversity when some felt it was time to let someone else carry the ball. I never doubted Eric. Eric proved after the Monroe City game that he could get the job done.

I will miss him dearly.

For all of the fellow Raiders, Please always do it the way Eric did it. THE RIGHT WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i first met eric last year when i came to school here
he is the best symbol of qnd i will ever find
he was one of the first people to welcome me to this school and made sure that i felt welcome.
He was a great guy, i'm glad i had the chance to meet him and become friends with him. The thing i hear most about him that makes me smile,is how everyone felt comfort around him, and so did I.

the thing i take from weiman or i say about him is

in football and school

"his heart was always his lead blocker"

i cant't wait to see him again
i knwo he feels the same

Eric Weiman was truly a good friend and a good teammate. I remember the first day of football practice and I couldn't get my locker open. He came over and said," Wiemelt, you need some help there?" I said yeah that would be great. He replied jokingly with a laugh," Damn freshman." We'll miss you Weiman, as a friend, a family member, and as a teammate. Eric Weiman will always be with all of us looking down on us and protecting us. We love you Superman!

Eric #38 was truly one of the greatest people I knew. His smile, his walk, his personality, and his work ethic were all things to be jealous of, and seemed to be contagious. These are the traits that made him loved by so many, and known by thousands more. The way that the school was silent on Thursday reflects the feelings that surrounded this young man. Rarely will anybody ever again see an impact by one single person like the one that was felt throughout this community. We love and miss you Superman, but we know you will always be with us.

Even though this is my first year at QND, I knew Eric. Several summers ago, he and my son played on the same YMCA baseball team. I don't know if he realized that. I would see him in the hallway every day since his locker was near my classroom. I have heard so many neat things about him that I wish I had known him better. He was a great athlete, a good friend, and dearly loved by everyone. The whole QND community will truly miss him.

Clayton #8,

I was most moved yesterday at the prayer service by you & Wiemelt taking the cross up to Eric's family. That had to be a difficult thing to do, yet you and Ryan embraced the significance of the moment. I know the family was deeply moved by this gesture. Your leadership extends far beyond the athletic field or court. Thank you for your gift of courage.

It is well documented that Eric was a great football player. Lots of people don't know he was a great baseball player, also.

He batted nearly .350 on the JV team last season and was expected to see some varsity action this year. I remember many good hits of his, but I most remember a time he was racing home from second base. I waived him around third and was worried he was going to be thrown out at the plate until he came tearing around third base. He was flat out flying. I was within three feet of him when he blazed passed me. I remember thinking at the time--"I am glad he was not running at me!"

He was powerful on the baseball diamond as well as the football field.
