Leisure Lane! -- ~*~ Hailey and Reno ~*~, 14:21:21 10/21/02 Mon
It was a glorious fall day. There was a but of nip in the air. The leaves had changed from their casual green into their majestic red, orange, and yellow. Reno was in good spirits too. I decide today would be a great day to get a quainted with my new friend. As soon as I saw him in that sale barn I knew he was the one for me. His ears pricked up as he heard my silent cooing of greeting. I gave him a thorough grooming and tacked him up. I let him sniff the tack. He approved of it all! I checked everything to make sure it fit properly and then headed off. I decided to take a nice long trail through the apple orchard on the newly bought land. We just walked along, enjoying the sun in our eyes and the wind that stung our noses. The trail got wider and less rocky so I signaled to a jog. He took to it fine. He had such a nice, smooth trot. It was like floating on clouds. I was awakened from this thought when Reno slid back into a walk. I urged him on and eventually into a lope. It was a fine day and Reno started to get sweaty. I took the narrow path back to DRR that led to the barn enterance. I hopped down, untacked him, patted his sweaty neck and fed him a treat. I put his tack on the racks outside his stall and slipped the halter over his nose. Then I clipped his royal blue line to the blue halter. I led him out into a pasture where the sun and darkened the patch of grass beneath it into a golden brown. I made sure there was hay and water available and left him alone. He had done great!

jump -- Mae & Spirit, 11:34:43 10/13/02 Sun
i had just gotten spirit and i couldnt wait to ride her. she pranced in the cross ties as i groomed and tacked her. when i finished, i led her outside. her ears flicked at everything and she nickered to the other horses. i led her to a mounting block and got her to stay still long enough for me to mount. i nudged her and she walked excitedly toward the trail we were going on. after walking awhile, we trotted and then she started cantering. she was warmed up enough, so i let her. when we got to a pond. i dismounted and let her drink and graze while i sat close by under a tree. after a while, i mounted and we kept going. we came to a part of the trail with a big log, and spirit wanted to jump. she kept staring at it and prancing, so i hought: why not? i nudged her into a canter and she happily went toward the log. with a graceful leap, we cleared it with feet to spare. her landing was easy and smooth. she bobbed her head and nickered excitedly. i turned her around and we jumped it again, even better than the first time. after two more times, it was time to hed back. i galloped her alittle bit, then we walked the rest of the way so she could cool off. after giving her a long grooming and shower, i put her back in her stall where Chandler was sleeping in Spirits hay. Spirit quietly walked up to him and smelled him before eating some of the hay around him. i smiled as i left her stall to excersise my other horses

Exploring -- Mae & Justamere Dreamer, 17:20:12 10/01/02 Tue
i decided to take Justin out for a ride, so i tacked him with Flex, Louie, and Chandler close by. When i led Justin out, the dogs sniffed at him curiously then calmed down. I mounted after tightening my girth one more time and we headed out on a long winding trail. Flex and Chandler stayed close, but sometimes Louie got sidetracked by a squirrel or rabbit. Justin was having a great time and when we got to a creek he started pawing at the water. I didn't want him to roll, so i let him drink and wade a little, the dogs swam out more, and then we kept going. we jumped a little and then we walked back to DRR. Justin was happily walking, lifting his legs high and the dogs were running around him, not getting too close though. When we got back, i made sure he was cooled off and untacked him. then i gave him an apple he deserved. i made sure to give Flex, Louie and Chandler water and a treat, too. :-)

- Awful Trail Ride -- Jessie, 13:26:00 08/31/02 Sat
I decided to ride my horse Sis on the trail. It was fairly easy trail this being the first time and all. After I brushed her and picked her feet. I tacked up and went out. I was riding through a thicket when a deer came flying by scaring her. I was thrown off and got up. I saw her rear and fall over. She didn't get up......

Clip Clop -- Ciara and Greenlea, 18:07:26 08/25/02 Sun
I spent a long time grooming Greenlea, I loved to see her white patches shine in the sun, I wanted to get her gleaming! I combed through her mane, forelock, tail and feathers and when i was finished I tacked her up for a hack. We trotted across old roads and trails for hours, she is an awesome trail horse, she never gets tired she just go go goes with her ears perked forward and hooves clip clopping. We went to a stream where we had sips of the clean crystal clear water. Then we headed back to Dazzling Round Ranch where I turned her out to pasture with her buds!
We had a great ride! :)

*Escape* (continued from the Indoor Arena) -- Megan & Dazzle, 10:15:35 07/16/02 Tue
....The trail turned jagged and rocky quite quickly but we continued on and about a half a mile down the trail it turned from rocky to a powdery white sand. Dazzle seemed relieved and so was I. Dazzle had strong feet but he was no Quarter Horse, and we both knew it. Then just as we rounded another bend in the trail, it opened into a wide riverbed filled with the same powdery white sand. Dazzle began prancing with excitement as he remembered the days in California when we used to race along a riverbed located near the ranch where I boarded him. The white sand continued on for miles and both mine and Dazzle's excitement overcame us. I squeezed him lightly and that was all it took. He sped up into an extended canter that soon became a full out gallop as a cloud of sand billowed behind us. The sunset was gorgeous and turned everything around a golden hue. By then Dazzle was beginning to tire, but he wasn't about to admit it so I reined him in to a nice lope, and then a jog, as we made our way back down the riverbed towards the ranch. By the time we got back to the ranch, all the horses were waiting impatiently for their dinner. But they would have to wait because Dazzle needed my full attention at the moment. After untacking him I picked his hooves and got rid of all the rocks that had lodged themselves in the sensitive parts of his feet. Then I hosed his legs off with cold water and wrapped them to keep them from swelling. After Dazzle had been put back into his stall I went into the feed room and mixed all the feed for everyone's dinner. And, of course, Dazzle got an extra ration of sweet feed for his hard work.

~*~ Summer Magic ~*~ -- ~~Hailey & DJ~~ ** Jeni &Berry Lou** & !! Marie & Sabby !!, 07:30:41 07/14/02 Sun
It was a gorgeous July day. A clear blue sky, a light breeze, and three horses just rearin' to go! I invited my two friends Jeni and Marie who were visiting from out of town. Marie was a big racing fanatic, so I let her ride Sabby, since he was half TB. Since Jeni wanted a more spirited horse (and since she was the shortest LOL) I gave her my American Baskir Curly Pony. And, since I had more experience riding, I took DJ, since he was very spirited. DJ isn't much of a jumping fanatic, but with the upcoming three day event, I was counting on him. We decided to do this. We all went into the show jumping arena and galloped over the five foot jumps, then cantered through the front pasture and exited out the rear gate. From there we squeezed through the brush and trotted on the trail. We started at an up-hill walk. We finally reached the picnic grounds where we had a quick lunch and went swimming in the creek. We unbridled the horses and let them graze and guzzle as much water as they wanted. The after noon sun started heating up the open field, so we decided to go back home and play some mounted games in the indoor arena!

*Summer Day* -- Megan and Shine On, 15:44:12 05/17/02 Fri
It was a beautiful sunny day out, perfect for a trail ride and a picnic. My saddle bags were ful and attached snugly to the horn of my western saddle. Cheyenne bobbed her beautifully dished head as I carefully slipped the toe of my left boot into the stirrup and lifted myself aboard her slender back. She swished her tail inpatiently as I gathered my reins and squeezed her gently towards the break in the trees leading to the trail. As soon as we were a ways down the dusty path I gathered both my reins into my left hand and used my right hand to dig out my sunglasses from the saddle bags. I carefully slid them on and placed my black cowgirl hat atop my head for extra protection from the glaring sun. I could hear Cheyenne knawing nervously at the bit as I swayed gently to the motion of her gait. Speaking to her softly as we continued on down the trail, she soon calmed down and quit chewing on the bit, a bad habit whom she unfortunately shared with Dazzle. We soon came to a clearing, scattered with lush grasses and wild flowers, and the distinct sound of a bubbling creek, the very same one which ran under the tiny cedar bridge at the entrance to the ranch. The only difference was that it was much wider with large boulders to climb upon and a rope swing hung from a massive oak. Halting in the middle of the glade, I dismounted, slipped the saddle off Cheyenne's back and ground tied her near a large oak tree. climbing onto a tiny boulder I dangled my feet in the cool water, just enjoying the peacefulness of the landscape and the sound of Cheyenne chomping happily on tender shoots of grass.

- Trail Trek -- Ciara & the critters, 13:48:23 03/28/02 Thu
I decided to take Shasta, Alaska, Gus and Diva for a hike in the woods. I let them all go loose without a leash or lead line so they could play with eachother, they knew not to wander off alone, they stuck close by me. We swam in the creek, jogged along the meadow trail, and walked when the terrain was rough. We were gone for hours and had lots of fun!

- ~*~Driving Trail?~*~ -- Hailey and Roxy!, 14:42:41 03/26/02 Tue
Today was an excellent spring day. Today I decided to try something new. I took my carrige out of the tack room, washed it down, at hitched Roxy to it. Then we were off! I decided to take the meadow trail, with it's smooth, flat, and wide path. The ground was perfect. Very smooth, firm and a little damp, but not slippery or bumpy. We started into a trot, then a canter. Roxy seeme so happy! I slowed her to a walk as we neared a small ravine we would have to cross. Roxy was completly confident and marched through it.
Soon it was afternoon and I decided to go back to the ranch. I wanted to get the horses ready for the show. Roxy seemed very disappointed to have to go home!

- Cruel Racer! -- Hailey, Tazz, Jas and B34, 15:50:07 03/17/02 Sun
"So glad you could finally come," I said as my friend Jas as she hopped out of her truck. "I'll get your horse out for you." "Thank you," Jas said cooly. " I decided to take a short trail ride with a meadow on the top. We could race there," I said. " Sounds cool to me," Jas answered. We tacked up and hit the trails. We started into a walk, then a trot. Instead of using leg pressure to urge her horse in a trot, she gave him a sharp wrap with the whip. I was puzzled. She usually NEVER did thst to a horse. We Soon reached the medow and stopped for a rest. "How's your new farm going?" I asked. "Wonderful," she said. "All of our horses respond to the whip!" I was shocked to here her say that. "Let's race," I said, changing the subject. We started to gallop across the plain. I was 2 lenghts in front of the horse. Jas started whipping the TB furiously. The horse galloped passed me. He was very close to the finish line. All of a sudden he fell down, dragging Jas under him. I stopped, and dismounted. I rushed over to her. Jas crawled out from under her horse. She gazed at the suffering horse. "Poor B34," she said. "What did you call him?" I asked. "B34," she said. " I don't believe we should treat horses as people. I'm calling my dad and telling him to call the vet. I'm putting B34 down. With her the way she is now, she'll never be a good eventer." "Why you HORSE SNOB!" I yelled at the top of my lungs. " Just because a horse can't show, doesn't mean he's useless! Our friendship is over FOREVER!" I said. Then mounted and galloped back to my apartment across from DRR.

- *Leap* -- Megan & Dazzle, 11:51:48 03/07/02 Thu
Dazzle pranced and pranced as we headed out of the ranch towards the trails. I decided to take him on a newly discovered trail that we hadn't taken before. I could feel him getting confused as we turned in the opposite direction than we usually did, but he soon calmed down as we ventured farther and farther along wooded trail. A few fallen trees littered the pathway, most just small sapplings, easily stepped over. But as we headed deeper into the forest there was a massive tree, that had been recently uprooted by the sudden storm we had had a couple of nights ago. Dazzle kept on walking right up to it until he got close enough to sniff it. He didn't seem frightened at all, so I turned him around and trotted back a ways before heading him back towards it at a canter. Without any hesitation ,and a swish of his tail, he leapt right over the log, clearing it easily and landing softly on the other side. The rest of the ride was uneventful, as the trail looped around back to the ranch, just in time for dinner and warm stall before the rain clouds cut loose and started pouring sheets of rain.

- Relaxing Time!! -- Hailey and Tazz!!, 17:11:25 03/06/02 Wed
I tacked up Tazz for another thrilling adventure. I was pleased with the horse's latest show performance since he hasn't placed well in jumping lately,so I thought he deserved the relaxing time. We cantered along for a little bit. Then we came to a fallen tree. Tazz cleared it with ease. He really was improving. An hour later we arrived back at the stable. All of my dogs raced out to greet us. I'm getting to have more dogs than horses!!

- Along For The Ride!! -- Hailey, 08:27:38 03/03/02 Sun
"And this is DRR Scarlet Moon, the new foal I was telling you about," I told my friend Tara. She was along for a trail ride today. "OH! What's his name?" She asked as we passed Kit's stall. "This is Kit. He's a superb eventer. Right know he's recovering from a bone fracture," I said. "This is Whirlwind. She's a Trakenher, you'll be riding her today." "This is my other horse, Tazz the TB." My other horses are still in training." It's almost noon, let's hit the trails." We both buckled our helmets then mounted. We took a different trail that day. A fairly easy one since Tara wasn't that experienced. "How are lessons going?" I asked when we stopped for a rest. " I don't start them for a week yet," she said in reply. "Oh." We tacked back up after awhile. We soon saw the DRR sign and Kass and Caesar romping around the grounds.

- Winter Wonderland -- Hailey, 16:19:28 02/24/02 Sun
It was a foggy day. Fallen snow lay on the ground. I bundled up in 3 pairs of socks, my winter riding boots, the armest jods I owned, a long sleeve riding shirt, and my warmest riding jacket. I suited up Whirlwind in her warmest clothes, too, including her extra grip horse shoes. We were ready for the three - hour trail that lay ahead of us. I attatched the saddle bags to my saddle, with weather covers. We trotted carefully up the winding trail. I was enjoying the scenery. We soon reached a flat part of the mountain. It was covered with trees except for one spot about 1/2 an acre wide. It was a perfect place to rest. I slipped off Whirlwind's saddle, so only the winter turnout was on her back. I then took the reins off her bridle, so she wouldn't trip over them. I put her in the old, small corral a few feet away. Whirlwind was probably thirsty from the hike we had endured. I went to the small brook with my canteen (empty). I pomked a hole in its ice and filled the canteen with its cool water. I then took matches from a saddle bag and started a fire under the canteen. Soon the water was the right temperature for Whirlwind. I then took a tupper ware container from another saddle bag and filled it with the water. I rested it on the fence of the corral so Whirlwind could drink. I took out a smaller container filled with mash and added the left over water with it. I then gave it to Whirlwind to eat. Then I took out my lunch and ate it under a tree. I saddled Whirlwind back up and we hit the trails. We returned home within an hour. I went into the willow barn where Kass ( the malamute) was happy to see me.

- Rain or Shine? -- Hailey, 16:38:21 02/22/02 Fri
I put on Kit's waterproof saddle pad, warm boots, then English saddle and bridle, practically new. I myself was wearing a velvet helmet, khaki colored, warm breeches, A winter riding sweater, thick rubber boots, and some wool mittens and a wool scarf, and a waterproof jacket over it. It was a cold day, but Kit needed the exercise since she wasn't in extra training for the upcoming shows. We trotted along the winding path, I was searching the sky for any signs of the predicted rain and hail. The sky was pale blue and I wouldn't be out long. I took the path through the wooded mountain up to the large, rolling plain. I took off her bridle to let her graze and drink. I layed down on the soft grass, not realizing the darkening sky. An hour later we were back on the trail. I heard a crack of lightening and it spooked Kit. We were almost home. I trotted her. All of a sudden it started pouring! "That's OK," I thought, "I put on Kit's - " All of a sudden I remembered I forgot to put on Kit's weather proof tack covers! We were almost there, the tack should be able to be repaired if we got there in a few minutes. Soon it started raining harder. I thought the tack was doomed, but I saw the ranch's gate. I quickly trotted Kit into the willow barn. I checked her over carefulle to see if she was hurt. Fortuneatley, she was fine. I took off the tack, boots, and pad. I went to the tack room and got a soft cotton towelto dry of Kit. She was almost completely dry soon. Then I went, got the warmest rug she had and boots and put them on her. Then I lead her to the stall and gave her the evening grain. I turned to the tack. It was beyoned repair. There were large nicks marked from the hail stones, it was soggier than a paper bag in the ocean, and the stirrup leathers fell off in my hands. I turned to the bridle. It to was wery soggy, A hail stone broke the reins of harness leather and the throat piece was slit into pieces and fallen apart. All that money gone. At least Kit was okay. I think I'd die if she got hurt. I turned out of the hall and into the tack room.

Magic has been behaving well and working quite hard lately, it's time he took a break and went on a nice relaxing yet well deserved trail ride! We just walked along enjoying the view and the fresh air, trotted over some logs that were lying in the way and took a cool sip from the stream.

- *Rolling* -- Ravelle & Megan, 19:07:33 02/06/02 Wed
The rolling blue grass hills seemed to continue on for miles as we neared the crest of antother hill. The excitement soon became too much for him and he started to prance uncontrolably. Feeling excited myself I gently squeezed his massive barrel signalling him to canter. After quite a few crow hops he calmed down into a nice, smooth, rolling canter. The wind whipped at his onyx mane and made it crackle like a wild fire as we continued together down the trail. Even though he could have continued on like that for miles I pulled gently on the reins and he immediately slowed down into a calm, collected walk. The sun started to disappear beneath the horizon, and a chill wind swept across the land, so we decided to turn around and head back to the ranch, and the warm shelter of the barn.

- *adventure!* -- Ciara and Magic!, 14:27:50 01/27/02 Sun
Magic and I started off the trail at a walk through the narrow path. Once we got to a clearing we trotted and eventually cantered through the field. We jumped a log and a stream and galloped in a river! It was lots of fun! Once we got to the glade Megan had told me about, I also allowed Magic a cool drink from the waterfall. Then we headed home to the safety of Dazzlin Round Ranch.

- *Explore continued......* -- Megan & Dazzle, 21:19:22 01/26/02 Sat
A gust of wind blew making his mane and tail flutter. She signaled Dazzle to trot as they continued down the winding path deeper into the forest. All of the sudden the trail ended and opened into a little glade with a pond and tiny waterfall. She dismounted, untacked Dazzle, and let him graze peacefully about the glade, while she cooled herself in the tiny pond. Before they knew it the sun started to go down and it was time to head back to the ranch. She tacked up Dazzle, mounted, and steared him back towards the forest. They were home in no time at all, and the ranch seemed to welcome them with it's big white barns & spacious pastures, as they topped a hill over looking the ranch. After untacking, and grooming Dazzle she put his warm stable blanket on and put him to bed in his stall next to Magic.
