Well, my strategy worked. Don't have too many expectations and be happy that it turned out better than you'd hoped for.

Number 1 reason this was the best of this season, MULDER MULDER MULDER! Even a lame ass ep comes alive with his presence. Love those lines! Best scene: him doing the Hanibal Lecter line followed by the kiss (shippers must have gone through the roof!) followed by the line about kissing Skinner. You know, when the show started, Scully was supposedly based on Clarice Starling. Inside joke?

Scully finally showed her emotion over the loss of William. I doubt we'll see him again. M/S have their own problems.

I could see the alien invasion date of 2012 on the first line of the computer screen. So I was kinda there from the beginning. Someone needs to freeze frame that part to see what else it says. Mulder pulled a Matthew Broderick from War Games at the shadow government base. Nice locations this ep, some of this season was too in doors.

Great to see everyone back, alive or not. Nice goodbye to the Lone Gunmen. Didn't they forget Deep Throat? That actor hasn't passed away, has he? The flashbacks were quick and didn't suck up time. Laid out this way, does it make sense now? They tied in some concepts well. The Roswell crash is due to the same magnesium problem the super soliders have? You'd think they'd have prepard themselves by now.

I thought the pubelo might have the Indians who got the Navajo files from back in season 3. Never mentioned those again. CSM looked like an Indian. They made sure he's dead this time. Gibson's presence was welcome, don't know how he gets on in between these encounters. If I were Mulder, I'd adopt him just to have him around on cases. Just have him check everyone you meet to check if they're lying or if they're not human. Guess Mulder too goody-goody for that.

Kersh has seemed potentially sympathetic in the past. Sort of like early Skinner. Willaim Devane wasn't used much. I can believe Kersh and the others not allowing a check of the unhuman guy's neck. They'd say it was ridiculous and not having anything to do with the trial.

My questions and quibbles:

1. The ghosts I could accept as possibly real or just Mulder's inner self. But Mr. X giving him the paper with the address, that was "real". Ghosts keep posted notes with them?

2. If Mulder was set to die, why was Knowle Rorher coming to see him? Seemed like he meant to kill him but why risk exposure?

3. Way too easy to get into the military prison.

4. Is the X-Files division dissolved again?

5. Those black heliocopter pilots are dumb if they didn't see or pursue M/S or D/R. Are they dumb or just sloppy?

6. What are the fates of Doggett, Reyes or Skinner? Fired? Arrested? Or just demoted and reassigned? Will any of them be in the movie? What about Gibson?

7. CSM and the syndicate had often said Mulder is a part of the plan, he's intrical. So CSM saying he just wanted to see Mulder find the truth and fail sounds lame.

8. There was a new conspiracy to replace the old. This should have been discussed long ago. Perhaps other, younger conspirators caused the old fuddyduds to get wasted by the rebels in the first place.

9. So much revealed way after the fact like Spender being Mulder's half brother and CSM his father. Too mattter of fact. I know Mulder suspected way back but no Luke Skywalker moment of "Nooooo!"

10. Great last scene, I just talked about the bedroom scene in the pilot not long ago. But what now? They go on the run as fugitives? How can they stop the aliens in that predicament? It'll be hard just to move around freely, let alone sneak into bases or include oneself in a police investigation. This next movie will not be like the good old days.

11. I had thought they would wrap up the mytharc as the next movie was rumored to be a stand alone story. I thought Mulder would be reinstated to the FBI and ask Scully to settle down with him. Boy was I wrong. Now they HAVE to make another movie. But how many are planned? CC got 10 years for himself. But are these films going to be more like "V" or "Earth: Final Conflict"? M/S in full action mode battling the aliens? Not the show we know. Somehow fear this won't be the same. And if CC makes the next film open ended and if it tanks box office wise, what then? Just walk away and no conclusion?

Well, inspite of some misgivings, great stuff all around. Cheers to all involved. We'll miss you.
