Subject: Cost of dresses

Just reading a post on the UK board about dress prices and am shocked! Someone saying they paid €3,000 for a COS dress and another £2,500 for Doire. Both of these are basically $AUD5,000. No wonder people are dropping out of Irish dance, add in import duty and gst if bringing in the dress to Australia and most families are priced out of the game. How do these dressmakers justify these costs? Is it the crystas added that increase the price so much? How do other Aussies afford a brand new dress, what are Aussie dressmakers charging? Yes there is used, but not every body type suits a used dress.

My daughter was a National champion I would love to have her dance in a blackout costume, I was confident enough in her talent to do well or even win it without a $4500 dress but I know her teacher would never allow it.
